Conversations with Judi Moody

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judi Moody.

Hi Judi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a 25 years old hair stylist, salon owner, social media influencer, artist mother and certified hustler.

I’ve worked hard from the early age of 15 to beat the statistics as I was a teen parent. I’ve kept my creativity close to my heart and never let that die. Which is why after the teen pregnancy, the house fires that lead to homelessness, the hotel living for three years, I BEAT IT. I beat the trauma that tried to take over my life.

Despite my living conditions I managed to operate two businesses out of that hotel, my first hair extension line in 2019 and a custom clothing line in 2020 called Scrap Denim. I pushed my product through my city with more determination than a little bit—out of the hotel! That gave me enough finances to move me and my son out of there into my first home.

Fast forward to 2023 and I’ve become a viral content creator, business/salon owner and I’m striving to push myself further! I know I’ve worked hard to be where I am, and there’s only higher up to go. I’d love to share my story with the world one day! My mission is to spread creativity with my work especially in hair and arts.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My road has been tough for sure. I’ve had creativity flowing through me since the age of four. Drawing, painting, music, nails, etc.! But, going through two house fires, teen pregnancy at 15, and homelessness created a force within me that drives my success today. I made it my business to beat the odds.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’d describe my current career as being an entrepreneur, hairstylist, wigstylist, painter and fashion designer.

I specialize in custom-colored wigs and I’m known for my loud vibrant colors! I’m the one to step outside the box and wear the two-tone mullet, that zebra-striped Bob or that rhinestone-encrusted 90’s updo!

I’m most proud of my ability to adapt to my environment and make something out of nothing. (Outside of my Missy Elliot Halloween 2022 costume lol)

I’m different than my peers because I show the raw truth, the struggle, the success and the process. I don’t let others define what my beauty is. I don’t let my circumstances block my creativity and I hustle through any situation. My hair is an extension of my self-expression and that is something only I can control.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people don’t know that I’m an extreme cat lover. BLACK cats to be specific!
