Conversations with Julianna Hampton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianna Hampton.

Hi Julianna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story started when I was a young girl. Just like any little girl, I loved playing with Barbies and American Girl dolls—but for me, it was always about the hair. That was my favorite part. I still remember asking for the Barbie Endless Curls one Christmas—the one with the curling iron and rollers. It was the best Barbie I ever had!

From that moment on, my love for hairstyling never stopped. In elementary school, the teachers at recess would let me play with their hair, and I’d try out all kinds of styles. By middle and high school, my friends were constantly asking me to braid their hair or give them new looks.

Then, in high school, everything shifted. My CTAE counselor offered me the chance to start cosmetology school during my junior year. I took the opportunity, graduated from the program a year later—right as I entered my senior year—and it has truly been the best roller coaster. There have been ups and downs, tears and victories, but every moment has been part of an incredible adventure.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be quite frank with you, it has not been a smooth road. Cosmetology school was rough—and I know most stylists can agree with that! Doing it while still in high school, as the first student in my entire county to take that path, made it even harder. I had peers questioning me, wondering if it was a smart idea or if I should stick to a “regular” college route. Even my cosmetology teacher doubted whether it was the right choice for someone so young.

But none of that stopped me. I’ve always been determined, stubborn in the best way, and so sure of what I wanted for my future.

Now, almost two years later, I can honestly say the journey hasn’t gotten easier—it’s just changed. I wasn’t prepared for the amount of comparison I would face, especially within myself, watching other stylists and questioning if I measured up. But through all of that, I’ve been incredibly blessed with an amazing support system and the best boss, Madison Reece. I truly wouldn’t be where I am without the people who believe in me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in color services, lashes, brows, extensions—and I’m excited to be stepping deeper into the bridal world. I’m known for being myself: genuine, authentic, and honest. I know my craft, I understand the science behind what I do, and I’m always pushing myself to grow.

I’m really proud of how far I’ve come and how often I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone. Being a stylist isn’t always “comfortable,” but I love trying new things and learning everything I can.

What truly sets me apart is my consultations. I take my time, listen to every detail, and ask the right questions—whether you’re showing me a picture or describing your dream look. My goal is always the same: to understand your vision and make you feel seen, heard, and completely taken care of.

What makes you happy?
Jesus truly makes me happy. He saved my life, and I’m endlessly thankful. He’s been with me through every high and low—personally, at work, and in my relationships. I’m so blessed to know Him and be loved by Him.

My prayer is that I can continue to reflect the love of Jesus in the salon and to everyone who sits in my chair, Amen!
