Conversations with Kai Simmons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kai Simmons.

Hi Kai, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up as a child deeply curious about life and always felt connected to a higher power. As a child, that connection felt like an imaginary friend—an unseen presence that offered comfort, guidance, and quiet knowing. As I got older, I realized that this energy was an inner guide, the voice that allowed me to channel truths, intuition, and wisdom in a way that helped me understand the world around me.

However, I was always very concerned with what my ‘purpose’ was. I, like many others, conflated my idea of purpose with a viable career choice. I often struggled with the idea of finding my place in the world.
I eventually established myself as a UX designer. This was the career choice that felt most aligned with my desire for freedom and creativity. I also began sharing some of my reflections on Tik-Tok as a way to find spiritual community. I went through my spiritual awakenings mostly at a time when platforms like Tik Tok didn’t exist. So my spiritual insights were not usually discussed with anyone outside of myself. This created a sense of loneliness and I found solution for this by finding likeminded people who resonated with my messages online. What started as casual thoughts about mindset, emotional awareness, and self-trust quickly resonated with others. It seemed that people were drawn not just to what I was saying, but to how I said it—honestly, intuitively, and without spiritual jargon. I spoke about life as I was actively living it, and that authenticity created connection. At this point I felt I had finally found my sense of purpose. By expressing authentically.

This is what ultimately led me to the work I do today as a spiritual life coach, meditation guide, and creative facilitator. Through my practice, Shifting Your Reality, I help people reconnect with their inner truth, move through emotional blocks, and build lives that feel aligned rather than forced. My work blends spirituality, psychology, creativity, and lived experience—grounded, practical, and deeply human.

I don’t believe purpose to be one particular thing, and I now recognize my need to respond to the evolving call of my purpose as life unfolds naturally. Currently I utilize my gifts to hold space for others to find the confidence to do the same—lovingly, honestly, and in their own time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth journey. In 2023 My journey took a much deeper turn when I experienced profound grief. My dad passed away unexpectedly, I lost my job just four months later (the same month of my 30th birthday) and this profound feeling of loss cracked me open in ways I didn’t expect. I had to face this chapter of life in a much different way than I was used to. Instead of strategizing or trying to turn away from the pain, I realized I had no choice but to put spiritual coaching aside and prioritize my own healing. At this time, music, writing, meditation, and movement became not just practices but lifelines for me. They helped me process grief not as something to “move on from,” but as something to integrate, honor, and transform. These are also some of the pillars of something I created called the ‘Sacred 60 Challenge’. 60 days of intentional living to help my clients shift their realities into more fulfilling lives. This challenge is a culmination of things I did for myself to escort me out of depression and financial hardship. It’s basically a modality that I believe anyone can use to get out of a difficult time in life. Geared toward women and honoring our feminine cycle, but truly can be utilized by anyone.

During this time, creativity became a staple in my regular healing practice. Deepening my relationship to creativity allowed me to realize that creativity is simply allowing yourself to be a vessel. Some of my favorite creations, came about in a way I cannot explain. It starts with a rhythm and slowly you receive ideas, add and tweak things in a way that feel very intuitive and guided. Suddenly you look up and you’ve created something worth sharing. At a time where I felt I had no control of my emotions, I allowed creativity be an outlet for these emotions to live. Moving the energy in that way that it needed to move. Many indigenous cultures know creativity to be an expression of a higher understanding. This creative process is how I’ve always understood life to be. We’re all doing this life, in this body, for the first time. So on some level, surrendering is necessary. You can’t plan for what will happen unexpectedly, but you can become a master at turning it into something beautiful. Grief is a part of life. Just as sure as you know you were born, is the same way you know you will leave this earth. Being faced with that reality felt like another spiritual awakening for me. Having a close relative who has passed, I feel allows me to have a connection with the spiritual world in a very direct way.

In hindsight I am very grateful for this time in my life where life broke open just for me to have more time and space to create, and to experience just how beautiful life can be when you let go. What felt like tragedy at the time, has brought me closer to the divine and I’ve learned how resilient and guided I am even in the midst of tragedy.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work centers on helping people reconnect with themselves through presence, creativity, and intentional self-inquiry.

I specialize in supporting people during periods of transition—grief, identity shifts, burnout, or moments when life is asking them to become someone new. Whether that’s through one-on-one guidance, group rituals, meditation, or creative expression. At its core, my work is about creating space for people to remember who they are beneath conditioning, survival patterns, and societal expectations.

Much of my work blends spiritual guidance with subconscious discovery. ( AKA shadow work) or subconscious reprogramming. I also utilize modalities like breath-work and meditation for nervous system resets, in order to help people feel safe in their bodies while they expand into a more aligned reality. I’m especially drawn to integrating goal setting and aligned action, as tools for expansion and manifestation, rather than relying solely on emotional redirection or a ‘positive thinking’ approach. I believe that emotions are a part of your journey not separate. I guide my clients to embrace and understand the range of their emotions rather than to push them away. That way we don’t retract back to a space that is maybe more ‘familiar’ but not authentic to what we actually want. This helps my clients move past fear rather than allowing fear to guide decisions.

I’m known for offering a soft yet honest approach. People often tell me they feel seen, understood, and gently challenged while working with me. I don’t believe healing has to be harsh or overly prescriptive, and I focus on helping people build self-trust instead of dependency. My work invites curiosity, embodiment, and personal sovereignty. My goal for my clients is for them to walk away feeling empowered to create life on their own.

What I’m most proud of is creating spaces—both online and in person—where people feel permission to be real. I’m proud of the way my work encourages emotional honesty, play, and self-awareness, especially for those who have felt disconnected from themselves or pressured to “have it all figured out.” This space allows people to feel safe enough to transform into the highest version of themselves without judgment, its a beautiful thing to see.

I believe what sets me apart is that my work is deeply lived. I don’t guide from theory alone. I am continuously educating myself on my craft and new healing modalities. I am very honest and open with my clients about my own journey and I guide from experience, and continual self-reflection. I allow my role to evolve as life evolves. My work isn’t about fixing anyone—it’s about the magic that happens when you realize you don’t need to be ‘fixed’ you need to expand the light that already lives within you. I walk alongside my clients in the present moment as they remember their own wisdom and guide them to take leaps of faith that the divine is guiding them toward.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that my audience probably doesn’t know about me is that I used to (and still do) struggle with extreme social anxiety. Part of my desire to create safe spaces for people is because of me not feeling safe in my own environments when I was younger. I would quite literally have a panic attack when I was asked to call a 1-800 number or when I went to ask for my first job application. I still struggle with social anxiety, but have become much better at managing it. As someone who has learned to consistently put myself out there and break through my own fears, I’ve made so much progress in this area. A prime example of how I’ve expanded my reality WHILE dealing with emotions that still continue to come up for me. So if you see me out in public, say hello! I promise that blank look on my face is just a defense mechanism against social fears (I’m working on it). Underneath that I’m a sweetheart!

Also, I have taken a social media hiatus to focus on my creative endeavors. Follow me to keep up with the journey. You can also book a session with me through my website. Shiftingyourreality.com
