Conversations with Kaitlyn Gage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Gage. She shares their story with us below:

A native of Michigan, Kaitlyn has called Atlanta, GA home since 2015. Growing up as a dancer/athlete, she has experience in flexibility and movement. Finding yoga in 2015 has helped her keep flexibility, as well as strength with movement, into her 30s. After attending yoga on a regular basis, along with kickboxing, she became more confident and found a great community. She became a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200hr) in Alaska, designated by Devotional School of Yoga (June 2019). Along with her yoga teaching, she is a full-time perfusionist at Emory Healthcare. Kaitlyn’s yoga flows are energetic, creative, and intentional. If you are looking for a cardio flow, look no further! She currently teaches private lessons and at the new Lifetime Buckhead in Phipps Plaza. She continues to have themed classes and also started a small small business of yoga shirts.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Trying to balance my full-time job at Emory and working weekends and subs as a yoga instructor is always a battle. Do I turn down yoga to pick up more shifts at work or vise versa? The yoga community is amazing, but there are still those “clicks” that are all over town. I think the lack of support from my fellow yogis has hit me hard the past two years. I have started an ECMO yoga program at Emory; it is a small sample size, but the patients loved it!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Although I am a science geek, insert day job in open heart surgery; yoga has allowed my creative side to come out to the world! Since I have lived in Atlanta, I have attended DragonCon every year. With this venue allowing me to channel my creative juices, I have brought it to my yoga teaching. I started having themed classes when DragonCon was canceled. in 2020. I would dress up like one of my characters, make a custom playlist, and even yoga poses to go with the theme. this became my mark in the yoga community! Every week was a different theme that students looked forward to wearing certain leggings to be part of the theme. I even started doing free pop-ups around the city for free to bring yoga to my community; lavender towels included! During COVID I also started providing kids yoga online 🙂

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I try to see what is trending or what part of the year it is for inspiration! From there I do my research via Instagram, Pinterest, google, etc. For poses, I look at my yoga training books and my anatomy books from school.
