Conversations with Kash Lawson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kash Lawson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always felt like my mom was the key start to my photography journey; well at least the start of my love for photography. My mom and her best friend used to have an event planning business. I really liked going with her and helping her set up for an event. At that time, I’m about 9/10 and sometimes kids get a little bored quickly, so my mom would give me her camera and tell me to take photos of the table set up. I remember having the time of my life! Taking photos of a cupcake in like three different angles was so fun to me! Fast forward to senior year in high school, I knew this was it for me. I knew I wanted to make Photography a profession and I was really adamant about it. January 2012 was the birth of Kash Photography and since then, it’s been such an amazing journey. I’ve met A TON of great people who has elevated me in some way, shape, or form. When I decided to commit full-time to Kash Photography, it was something I did without hesitation. I took a huge leap of faith and felt like this was right in my heart to do. I honestly and truly wasn’t happy working a 9-5 and I was juggling three at one point. Photography is truly what I love to do. It brings so much joy to my heart. Starting from an idea to bring things to life and then seeing the clients’ reactions?! OMG! *happy tears*

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh man, I’ve experienced so many challenges. My biggest struggle during this journey was trying to please everyone and not realizing how empty my glass was. When you truly believe what’s meant to be will come to you, you start to realize that certain clients weren’t your target market; and you’ll have clarity that things will align in due time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Photographer and Creative Director. I specialize in bringing ideas to life. I’m really good at creating concepts on the spot. Aside from my great work quality, I’m known for my work ethic and creating a fun photoshoot atmosphere. 90% of my clients have no modeling experience and the end result looks so organic. It’s amazing how we create a beautiful piece of art. My proudest moment was seeing my work on a billboard in Times Square, right next to Dave and Busters. I did a photoshoot for a cosmetic and fashion brand called EmpressLAF. I had a private moment to myself and I cried. What’s crazy is a few years back, I took a photo of the same location. I was just walking around Times Square snapping anything that caught my eye. Years later, who would’ve thought that my work would be on display in the exact location for the World to see was breathtaking. As the World evolves and trends come and go, I’ll continue to follow my instincts and create more memories. Lastly, the moment I found my lane, my work improved and that’s what sets me apart from everyone else.

How do you define success?
I believe once you’ve made something society felt was impossible, possible, that’s success.
