Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Williams.
Hi Kayla, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am an Electronic Pop singer-songwriter based in Atlanta, Georgia. Having been raised primarily in Mexico City and four other countries abroad, the music I create is heavily inspired by the music I heard during my time living abroad. I began playing the piano at the age of eight and have always done things that cater to my musical side since then. Creating music is one of my greatest passions, and I am so excited to be on this path where I am doing something that I truly love. My main goal is to impact those who can relate to my experiences. I hope that my music will touch the hearts of others and provide comfort, as did the music I listened to growing up.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Last month I released my debut single, “Indifferent.” Releasing this song was a smooth process but I am certain that on this journey, there will be ups and downs and obstacles by nonetheless by staying focused on the end goal and blocking out any negative energy, I am sure I will overcome them effectively. As I continue in this industry, I am learning new things and have to manage my time effectively between school and music, which has been one of the harder parts.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I write songs across so many different genres, but the main ones are Electronic Pop, Alternative Pop, and Dance music. As far as my sound goes, I love to create anything with a mysterious, moody vibe. I start off with a foundation, whether that is a beat or a verse, and then build on top of that; mixing different genres is what I do to make my music stand out. Since I was younger, I’ve always wanted to create music, but I didn’t know where to start. Stepping out of my comfort zone and following through with actions to see my goals come to fruition is one of the things I am most proud of.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The pandemic was the first time when I realized, wow, life can change drastically in a second. After graduating from high school during quarantine, this was a much-needed moment to slow down and be present and get my priorities straight. I had a lot of time to focus on my hobbies, wellness, and self-care, spent time with my family, and just lived life at a calmer pace with a lot of time to reflect and practice gratitude.
