Today we’d like to introduce you to Keea Daniel-Lance.
Hi Keea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my business for two reasons. The first reason is a more personal reason. I was adopted when I was three years old along with three other siblings. When we were adopted, we did not have any photos of us before we were all placed in foster care. Due to not having any photos before the age of three, I have always had a camera in my hand and taken photos to capture memories. Capturing memories now that I have my own family is very important to me and it pushed me to start my business. I have also always enjoyed photography and experimented with it growing up.
The second reason I started my business was to reach families who couldn’t afford the higher-end photo sessions. I was a single mom of two children for a long time. The only place I could afford to go for photos was Walmart. They had a 9.99 package where you get a small package of the very first image they took. I always wanted more photos and more setups, but I just couldn’t afford it. So I wanted to offer quality photography at a price everyone could afford.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the hardest lessons to learn in the photography industry is to focus on you and your brand and your art and not everyone else’s. Trends will come and go, photographers will come and go and some will help you along your journey and some will want to tear you down. Take constructive criticism and learn and grow from it but don’t let it stop you. Never stop learning and growing and trying new things. Another issue that I have faced is that there are so many photographers today. It’s been a struggle to set myself apart from others. One way I do this is in how I treat my clients. I treat my clients like family and promote a safe, professional and inviting environment for everyone I meet. I also have faced the challenge to express that images are art and should be treated as such. Every photographer has a unique style and vision that creates their art. Your family and the photographer together create timeless art that surpasses time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in indoor and outdoor portraiture for maternity, newborns, children, seniors and families. Most of my clients, I book are for either newborn or family sessions, but I love all types of sessions. I am most proud of my growth as an artist and the relationships and bonds I form with my clients. I think my love for children and my personality and client experience set me apart from most other photographers. I love people, I love talking, I love being social and learning about others and how they see the world and their vision for their sessions.
What makes you happy?
I love to watch movies, coca-cola, shopping, eating out, hanging out with my friends and spending time with my family and children. I love talking on the phone and I love helping people.
