Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsi Ballard.
Hi Kelsi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I originally started doing my family members hair just for fun and realized I enjoyed it. I felt most happy when I was doing hair or talking about hair. I did hair all throughout schooling. After school I tried college for a bit but realized I wanted to be in the beauty industry. So, I started at Paul Mitchell but it didn’t work out for me. I eventually went on to edgecombe community college in NC to gain my natural hair license. I always talked about relocating and moving to Atlanta Georgia. I moved to Georgia in August of 2023 and have been working to gain new clientele and new trades I’m interested in while I’ve been here. I am now a certified lash tech and a certified makeup artist. I enjoy the beauty industry and plan to further my education in it as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road for me. When I first started doing hair it was a smooth road because I was in a city where I was known for doing hair. Whereas here I am trying to gain the right clientele and find my people for my business. My struggles along the way are marketing and how to market my business. Now I have the right people in my corner to help with the things I’m not sure about doing on my own.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a licensed natural hairstylist. I specialize in braids , sew ins, frontal wigs , closure wigs and locs. I’m most proud of my versatility and how well I can adapt to change within the beauty industry. What sets me apart from others is that I am not just set to doing one thing but able to do a variety of things. Picture it as a one stop shop.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the fast pace lifestyle here in Atlanta. I love networking and I love the people in the beauty industry’s work ethic. I would say the least thing I enjoy is the traffic.
