Today we’d like to introduce you to Kierra Reed.
Kierra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was a broke college student just looking for an extra way to make money. I always knew I wanted to be my own boss and didn’t want to live an average, mediocre lifestyle—I just never knew what I’d be doing. Working a job, keeping up with schoolwork, and going to class was getting harder to manage. At the time, I was a cashier at Publix.
We weren’t allowed to wear colored hair, long nails, or piercings. I hated it—it felt like I couldn’t be myself. During college, I fell in love with lashes. I would be so late to class—or sometimes miss it altogether—because I was trying to get my eyelashes on just right and perfect my eyebrows. That’s what made me get into lashes! Ironically, it also played a part in me losing my financial aid for a semester.
I spent every last penny to my name on a $600 master lash training course, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself.
I used every last dollar I had to make that investment, but I didn’t care—I had a huge plan and vision for myself. I knew I’d get it back tenfold.
As a young girl, I always knew I didn’t want to work for anyone or have to ask people for anything. Seeing the financial freedom that came with being my own boss really motivated me.
I also had a lot of haters and people who didn’t believe in me, but that only made me go harder—I felt like I had something to prove. After losing my financial aid during my sophomore year, I was forced to sit out of college for a semester. I remember crying, feeling so sad and afraid of what people would say about me not being in school anymore.
One of my friends said, “Think about it like this—you can use that time to work on your lashes.” That’s exactly what I did—and I never returned to college. I stayed true to myself through it all and stopped caring what others had to say about me or my life. A lot of people felt I should be in college instead of chasing my dreams. But it all started with faith the size of a mustard seed.
During that time away from college, I also went to jail twice, back-to-back. I felt like such a failure—like my life was over. I couldn’t get a job, and my family was disappointed in me. I had to figure life out on my own starting at age 21. So, I chose to believe in myself and my “little business,” even when no one else did. I didn’t have any other choice but to put my faith in myself and in God. I’m forever grateful for that phase of my life—it taught me the true definition of self-sufficiency and perseverance. It taught me to always stay true to my unapologetic, authentic self.
Life gives you lemons so you can make lemonade. I’m grateful for all the trials and tribulations I’ve faced so far—they’ve shaped me into the beautiful woman I’m becoming today. I’m not perfect, but every day I aim to become a better person.
The worst times of my life helped me find something I love and enjoy doing. It helped me discover my true passion—something that will create generational wealth.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest struggles along the road has been having to basically rebuild my brand from zero—all over again. I used to have it all figured out. I always knew the next move and what was coming next. I never thought there’d be a time when I couldn’t fully depend on my business to take care of me.
I had to get a job—something I once said I’d never do again. But at the time, I had no choice. I couldn’t even get one. That situation humbled me a lot.
“If you feel God has humbled you, consider it a sign of His grace and a reminder of your dependence on Him, allowing you to grow in humility and faith.”
It also taught me a lot of lessons—one being that there’s nothing wrong with working a 9–5 while being an entrepreneur. In fact, it’s actually smarter. It may be more stressful, but it can help you reach your goals faster.
I was supposed to move out of my hometown but didn’t, so I stopped doing lashes for a while. I still did them occasionally but was more focused on real life. At the time, my business page was doing great. I had clients in ATL waiting on me, people from all over messaging, interacting, and wishing I was in their city. But my lack of social media activity caused everything to decline.
My brand was growing. The exposure, the support—it meant everything to me. But when it slowed down, I got discouraged. I stopped posting. I lost clients. I lost my vision. I felt sad, confused… lost.
People were watching me—praying on my downfall, trying to tear down my name and what I built. But here’s the truth: people talk, but most of them don’t have the courage to start. They don’t have the confidence to quit that 9–5 and depend on nobody but themselves and God.
This entrepreneur life—it’s not for everyone. It takes strength, faith, and resilience. And if you know, you know… only the strong survive.
This situation showed me how people will watch and support you, but deep down, they don’t like you. They’re just waiting to see you fall—the very same ones who once cheered you on.
Imagine going from making $6K- 7k a month off just lashes to barely $1K or $2K.
I decided to enroll in esthetician school, and it was one of the best decisions I could’ve made at the time. Since then, I’ve regained my vision, passion, and drive—all while grieving the loss of my sister, one of my best friends and biggest fans.
I’ve rebuilt my brand and clientele from the ground up, and now I’m rebranding into something even bigger and better.
I’ll be launching my very own lash supply product line VERY soon—stay tuned!!
