Conversations with Kyree Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyree Brown.

Hi Kyree, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out around the age of ten, playing around with African drums in festivals and parades in Pittsburgh, PA. Once I got to middle school, I joined the band and began learning how to play bass, snare, cymbals, and more – percussion was my specialty. In high school, I used DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) programs to make beats while still being on the drumline. I learned about FL Studios after graduation and decided to figure out what was next. I started researching and taught myself how to mix and master… And I made beats every day after that – I graduated in ’08, and I haven’t stopped yet. I’ve been blessed to meet a handful of people, including my manager, who’ve helped me develop my sound design. I love music, it’s my passion, and I’ll keep going until I can’t anymore.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road, but I’ve always been told that the Creator gives the hardest tests to his strongest warriors. I’ve had to sleep at hotels, in my car, on the floor… I’ve even had to sleep outside more than once. My house flooded last year, and I’ve been in hotels since. None of this is easy. I’d never give it up, though.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a music producer. I specialize in making trap beats with southern influence. I’m known for darker, sometimes melancholic themes in my work. What I’m proud of is my sound design. Since I started working on it, I’ve developed a sound that I haven’t ever heard anyone else make. Although there are similar elements and influences that other beats and mine have, none of us are the same creatively. What sets me apart is the ingenuity in my artistry.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the passion that comes from this city. There are so many talented people, and that’s what drew me here – it’s like a small Hollywood, and there is so much inspiration. I don’t think there’s anything I don’t like about Atlanta.
