Conversations with Laché Chanice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laché Chanice.

Hi Laché, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am your not so typical – or maybe, 30 years old millennial. I am a born and raised Canadian, Toronto native to be specific, born to Jamaican parents in 92. As a child, I always had multifaceted dreams larger than my surroundings. With a knack for fashion and creative outlets, I started dancing and performing at a young age while also styling, designing and making fashion the main and ultimate driving force in my later years. I have always had a love and desire to be a fashion designer, entrepreneur, and work within media. Upon finishing high school, I decided to infuse my love of writing and fashion and start my own blog. Fast-forwarding to 2015, I graduated from the University of Toronto double majoring in English and Media Studies. I know that has nothing to do with fashion, but while I was completing that I worked in fashion retail, worked with various designers at fashion week, and landed my own assistant styling gigs at local television stations within Toronto and styling for high profile clients in the music industry, etc. After years of styling, I finally decided to start my own brand THELCCOLLECTION in 2019. After feeling that I’ve done everything I possibly could to grow my career in Toronto, and decided to make the great international move (a 3-hour flight) and came to the dynamic and culturally innovative city of Atlanta! I’ve always resonated with Atlanta, and its culture, from the music, the food, and being the black Hollywood and mecca for black-owned businesses, etc. I’ve always known I wanted to make a name for myself here. While being here, I also decided to start my own media agency Interstellr Coms, and focus on expanding my career as a full-time content creator and business owner. I plan to expand THELCCOLLECTION into a full clothing line, and it is my dream to open a boutique here in Atlanta!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road to say the least! I’ve always been very fortunate to know exactly what I wanted to do with my life, but there have been many obstacles I’ve had to overcome and still currently face to get to where I am today. In 2010-2015, working two retail jobs and going out to find my own internships while in an intense four years university program was one of the most difficult times in my life. Every opportunity in fashion I’ve ever received, I had to go out of my way and get it myself. Most schools have co-op. or programs that aid students in landing internships or jobs, but unfortunately my program was unrelated, and there weren’t any opportunities for me if I were to go that route as well. Dealing with all of those obstacles and not having the right opportunities for growth being an option was always a driving force in my decision to one day move. There are very limited opportunities in Canada for creatives to grow beyond what is available to us. I knew in my heart, I wanted to do much more than what was in front of me. Due to the lack of opportunities for growth, I took on jobs in fashion retail sales and management. I always told myself, as an entrepreneur it takes money to make money, so being caught up working in retail for ten years felt like a lifetime. I felt that it was beginning to limit me, my creative potential, as well as everything I ultimately wanted to accomplish, ask any creative, that is a death sentence for us! Starting my own brand was a step in the right direction, but there were still similar obstacles in the way that prevented it from becoming as big as I always imaged it could be!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have an e-commerce boutique known as THELCCOLLECTION, I am currently selling luxury-inspired, high-quality affordable jewelry. I am planning the launch of the clothing and swimwear division later on this year. I am most known for my style, and everyone has been anticipating me tapping into what I know and love best, Fashion!

I also have a media agency, Interstellr Coms, which focuses on all aspects of media, from content creation, social media strategy and planning, business coaching and development, web design, etc. I want it to be the one stop shop for small and corporate businesses for all things media-related. I would love to have a division for content creator/ influencer management as well! (Much later!)

I also just launched my youtube channel that I have big plans to tie all my brands together while documenting my daily life and moving process/ updates, lifestyle vlogging, etc.

I am most proud of my brands, my resilience, and determination to transform each one into the next level!

I believe being multifaceted sets me apart because I am able to assess my businesses from so many different angles. From designing my own websites, email marketing, photography and editing while also modeling. Being at the center of it all allows a perspective a lot of business owners lack. (However, that is what inspired me to start Interstellr Coms!)

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising might be my natural love and ear for music. Many people had no idea I could dance, sing, rap, act. I also want to work within screenwriting and writing my own book. Maybe being in Atlanta will bring that side of me out again!
