Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Boresow Groover.
Hi Leah, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been dancing. It’s the only thing I ever wanted to do, and I was lucky to know that so early on. With my parents’ support, I danced all through my childhood and right into college with a dance degree. Then, I knew I would be doing as much as I could to stay a moving artist AND pay the bills, so my life consists of performing, choreographing, and instructing dance. And to cap it all off, I am getting ready to celebrate 3 years as a dance studio owner of my fabulous adult dance studio, Get Up And Dance!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly hasn’t been too rough, but it’s been an awesome learning curve. Other than dealing with difficult management prior to owning my own business, one of the biggest struggles was definitely dealing with COVID and recovering from it, as someone who depends on face-to-face interaction for their life’s work.
Now, the biggest challenge is juggling it all, and I have no intention of slowing down (: I am also a new mom, balancing being with my new baby with performing, choreographing, producing showcases, and, of course, teaching.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Dance is the word. It is my whole world. And I know it like the back of my hand! I specialize in all sorts of dance styles, such as ballroom dance, Latin dance, ballet, contemporary, modern, tap, jazz, musical theatre, swing dance, and more! I believe my authenticity of truly knowing all of these styles sets me apart from other dance studios- it’s not easy to find a passionate “one-trick-pony” like myself. But I am very proud of myself for keeping my passion to inspire others alive- dance brings me so much peace and joy and I love giving that to others!
What makes you happy?
Dance makes me happy. Is it cliche? Maybe. But it’s more than true. Not only does it make me happy because it is a comfort of mine as something that I know and cherish for over 30 years now, but I love it because, as a creative, it has endless possibilities. I get to try everything in dance, both physically and mentally. And it allows me so beautifully to connect with other people, which is such an important human experience, in my opinion. The way that it challenges my mind to connect my body to music is a magical thing! There really is nothing else like it,
