Conversations with Londyn Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Londyn Williams.

Hi Londyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a young entrepreneur and creator born and raised in a small town of Louisiana named Ponchatoula. I began my journey as an entrepreneur in 2016 at the age of 16. I come with an ample amount of talent, so confining myself to one was challenging. I started out with my own clothing boutique named “Londyn’s Blushing Pink Boutique LLC”, where I sold wholesale clothing and even became a digital t-shirt designer after a while. As my business started to take off, I became drained with the amount of custom orders and trying to find a balance in my high school and cheer agenda. During that stressful time, I began to fall in love with the pattern of my hair. I started spending ridiculous amounts of money on products that would not work for my natural hair.

One day in 2017, I decided to blend every ingredient that helped my hair maintain its moisture, health, and effective growth. That is how my uprising brand Ondulado Products began. “Ondulado” means “curls, curly, or wavy” in Spanish. I love simple but creative, so I decided to change the language for the perfect word that would describe different textures of hair. I went through many trials and errors during this process to get the perfect product attached to the name. I spent days talking to my parents, aunt, and grandparents about this idea.

I released the first product, “Moisturizing Curl and Detangling Cream” in 2018. When I first launched the product, the consistency was pretty thick with a bland smell. The goal was to keep the product 100% natural but the consistency creamier. After spending long nights and early mornings with my grandparents (who I lived with at the time) Clifford and Danita Dean, I finally decided to team up with a manufacturing company to take some of the pressure off of me. That was one of the best decisions I made while preparing for the next semester in college. The company would use my ingredients to create the same product but with the perfect consistency, I was looking for. They had the right equipment to bring my dream to life. Thanks to them, the product is perfectly creamy with a very delightful smell.

In December, I decided to pack my things, register for Georgia State University and move to Atlanta at the age of 18 to develop my future for my brand. I was so inspired to see so many young entrepreneurs following their dreams that I knew Atlanta was the place for me.

In 2019, my life took an unforeseen and traumatic turn. I became a victim of depression due to heartbreaks, managing life, and trying to stay afloat in school. Those events caused me to take a step back from my brand and school, but I did not let that stop me for long. In that same year, I forced myself to get back up and successfully created my first branding photoshoot and continued the journey for success.

Fast forward to 2020, I let everything that held me back GO! I found my worth and began to prosper. I began to rebrand Ondulado and launch with a new look and more products on December 14, 2021 with the promise to never give up again. My online store completely sold out within two weeks of launching! That was the only validation I needed to go harder and follow my dreams. But then another miracle arose.

On May 15th of 2021, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Paris and became a mom! I was filled with more ambition and motivation to never give up. My sales kept increasing, which pushed me to purchase an equivalent of the equipment I needed to create more products myself. I invested my time and money into more education about hair from many ethnicities to market my brand and reach a broader audience.

With my expertise in digital creation, fashion, beauty, and creativity, I became a contracted UGC Creator and influencer for four global brands and many local brands.

I am now 24 and here to tell you the life of a young multi-talented entrepreneur comes with many challenges, but giving yourself grace will light up the pathway you were destined to walk in and reach many milestones you set yourself up to accomplish. This is a reminder to walk in your own light and no one else’s shadow.

None of this would have been possible without the abundance of love and support from my partner, family, friends, and colleagues. But the one person that pushed me and gave me guidance throughout this journey will never be forgotten, my grandfather Clifford Dean, who recently passed away from his short battle to Colon Cancer in January of this year. To all of my day one supporter and customers, I am here to say THANK YOU in so many ways. Without you and your uplifting support, Ondulado Products would not be what it is today.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road to success has not been smooth by far. I struggled with having faith and confidence. Sometimes I still do, but I remind myself who I am and what my purpose is. I was afraid of the backlash from peers and strangers that may arise. I went through many trials and errors during this process to get the perfect product attached to the name. I spent days talking to my parents, aunt, and grandparents about this idea.

Becoming a mother in 2021 put more pressure on me and came with its’ own challenges. Facing postpartum depression and anxiety was one of the toughest challenges I faced as a new mom. It was hard on me and my partner. It basically threw my old traumas and thoughts in my face, forcing me to deal with them. I couldn’t be more grateful for my partner because he helped me maintain and get through it. With it still lingering from time to time today, I have to rely on Jehovah God for strength and guidance.

Every day comes with its’ own anxieties and challenges, so I try my best to focus on one thing at a time and pray.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a content creator, I specialize in capturing the defined details of everything. I pay very close attention to detail and romanticize all of the simple things that others may not have seen before. What separates me from other content creators is how authentic I am in my work. I use my own creative ways to set many trends. If you were to ask someone what I’m known for, they would have to say for my creativity, dedication, and ambitions to never stop chasing what I love.

If I had to choose an accomplishment I’m most proud of, it would be me healing myself. In order to be even more authentic, I took a huge step to heal and find the purest form of peace so that my love and light can be shed amongst others. Being able to speak my peace and share my experiences with others has helped me to create personal relationships with those who may have experienced the same thing or similar.

From a business perspective, my brand Ondulado specializes in providing quality and luxury hair care to anyone with textured hair. We promote healthy hair growth and embracing what makes you unapologetically unique. We are known for engaging with our customers and providing an abundance of hair benefits, all while creating personal relationships with them.

We are set apart from many others because we are not in it for the money but to help the enhancement of self-love. Self-love is the best love, and that is exactly what we want from our supporters. We want them to love the hair they were given and embrace it no matter what! We strive to meet the needs of our community and create positive experiences.

Our biggest accomplishment was not passing up an opportunity to expand internationally. In 2022, my brand reached an all-time high milestone. My partner and I took a trip to Bali, Indonesia where an exciting opportunity fell into my hands. One of our GoJek drivers asked us about our hobbies and what we did for a living. So after answering his question, he began to tell us about his unsuccessful hair growth journey and the negative impacts the heat has on many Balinese citizens. I knew right then and there this was an opportunity of a lifetime! I so happened to have a bottle of my Bio-Rice Anti-itch and Growth serum to keep my scalp cool and itch-free from my protective hairstyle. I went on to lend him the bottle in exchange for an honest review of how the product made his scalp feel. If you didn’t know, Indonesia’s main harvesting crop is rice! The heat and humidity is increasingly high there and my product has a cooling effect on the scalp to prevent weakening to the scalp barrier. He instantly fell in love and reached out to me a day before we left to thank me for solving his year’s worth of problems.

Before we left, a lightbulb went off from that experience. I decided to create a design for a banner and teamed up with another entrepreneur from Bali that I met while visiting. With the help of my new business partner, I was able to bring my design to life! He secured one of the best hanging spots in the busiest part of Bali!

In January of this year, I shipped my first batch of growth oil to Indonesia with a surprising amount of sales. That significant experience and many others have moved me to collaborate with many other business owners around the world.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see my brand taking a huge turn sooner than later. As we prepare to meet new and creative heights this year, we expect to see a double in sales and engagement with our new marketing strategy. We plan to have employees, a warehouse, and a lab for product production in the near future. Our main goal is to provide easier access to our products by putting them on the shelves of Target and a few beauty supply stores across the U.S. In September of this year, we will launch an aesthetic line of merchandise that represent Ondulado Products but in the form of a fashion statement.

As a UGC creator, I see myself traveling more through sponsorships and helping others get started as a creator with a digital book and guide to success. I want to continue setting examples for my daughter and the youth in this generation and future generations to come. I want them to gain knowledge about the texture of their hair and why embracing it is important. Every kink, every curl, every coil, and every wave is unique in its own way!
