Conversations with Mandrill Hardge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandrill Hardge.

Mandrill, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been passionate about healthy hair care for as long as I can remember. What began as doing hair for family and friends turned into a full-fledged career rooted in purpose, precision, and a deep love for Black women embracing their natural beauty. After years of perfecting my craft behind the chair and working in high-pressure environments like film and television, I opened MH Concepts Salon Studio in the heart of Midtown Atlanta to create a space where African American women, from college students to professionals, can prioritize their hair’s health without sacrificing style.

At MH Concepts, I specialize in silk press services, natural flat sew-ins, and custom hair care treatments tailored to each client’s needs. My approach is rooted in education, quality products, and techniques that promote long-term hair growth and strength.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not always smooth—but every bump shaped me. Like many entrepreneurs, I faced the uncertainty of building a client base from the ground up. There are seasons when business is slow, and I have had to lean heavily on faith, persistence, and word-of-mouth referrals to keep going. Transitioning from traditional salon work to owning my own salon suite in Midtown Atlanta came with a learning curve—from marketing to managing bookings, inventory, and client care.

One of the biggest challenges was shifting the mindset of clients who had experienced heat damage or poor hair care in the past. Many African American women, especially those with natural hair, have had to unlearn years of misinformation. That’s why I’m so committed to not just styling hair but also educating my clients about healthy hair practices, protective styles like flat sew-ins, and the long-term benefits of treatments tailored to their unique texture.

These challenges help shape the high-standard, results-driven environment that MH Concepts Salon Studio is known for today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At MH Concepts Salon Studio, I focus on healthy hair care for Black women who want both style and substance. I specialize in silk press services, natural flat sew-ins, and customized hair treatments that nourish, strengthen, and protect the hair from the inside out. My goal is always long-term hair health—not just a beautiful look for the day, but results that last.

Clients often say I have “growing hands,” and that’s something I don’t take lightly. I’m known for helping women transition from damaged or fragile hair to strong, thriving strands—especially those who’ve worn their curls for years and are now seeking smooth, straight styles without compromising the integrity of their hair.

What sets me apart is my holistic approach. I create a one-on-one experience where clients feel heard, seen, and cared for. I don’t rush. I listen to the hair, analyze what it needs, and provide solutions that work—not trends, but real results. I also educate my clients along the way, so they feel empowered between appointments.

What I’m most proud of is creating a welcoming space in Midtown Atlanta where college students, professionals, and everyday women feel confident walking in and even more empowered walking out.
