Conversations with Marquita Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquita Jackson.

Hi Marquita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Marquita Jackson and I am a native of Detroit, Michigan. I currently live in Atlanta, GA. I grew up on the Eastside of Detroit and while I was there I was never interested in fashion or makeup. However, my fondest memories as a child was that my mother always made sure my three sibling and I were well dressed. My love for fashion all started with my mother and grandmother. They set the tone for why I have such a passion for the fashion community. While growing up, I never knew any background about clothing or the designers who made them. I was just a young girl who wanted to look pretty and my mom made sure that I did. I always wore flower dresses to church.

While living in New York, I met a young lady by the name of Kendetta and she is still my best friend until this day. We began to hang out and get to know each other. There wasn’t much for us to do in a military town, and we began to have dreams of becoming makeup artists. I began to watch makeup tutorials on YouTube, and I mean tons of them. I bought a lot of makeup because I wanted to know how to do my own and to begin my journey of becoming a makeup artist. I relocated to Tennessee to a small military town outside of Nashville. After I had my second son, I started a freelance course at Academy of Makeup Arts in Nashville, TN. Suddenly, my life shifted before my eyes. I was now divorced and a single mom of two boys. Through my pain and struggles, I tried to survive on my own and raise my sons. I then began to birth my makeup career and my love for fashion. I graduated from school and wanted to learn more about being a wedding makeup artist.

Due to all the knowledge I have gained, I now know who I am as a woman and my life has taken another shift. I relocated to Atlanta, GA in July 2022 and started my journey as a Fashion Blogger. I have now found my niche. There is just something about being creative and unique in your own way and it just brings me so much joy and happiness. Fashion has allowed me to embrace the unique part of me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road for me. I’ve been rejected and felt as though I wasn’t good enough at my craft. I also didn’t fit in with my peers because I knew I was different. Everything I went through was necessary for me. I would not be who I am if I didn’t go through struggles along the way. Now I can say I am an amazing woman, entrepreneur, creator, and mom. The list goes on because I know who I am. My past built me for my now and my future. Now when I wake up in the morning, peace overtakes me. I look at my life now and just thank God for where I am mentally and spiritually.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Personal Stylist and I demonstrate how to put clothing items together and create your own fashionable look. I’m most proud of my confidence. I know that I can walk into a room with confidence and leave others feeling confident as well. I carry the light that has been placed within me. When other women see me, it is not just Marquita standing in the room. They can also see the light that God placed within me.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next five years, I see the fashion community growing even bigger. I see myself styling entrepreneurs, styling on movie production and individuals who want to elevate their wardrobe. There are always trends, like for example jeans on jeans is back, and I am loving this trend. It is so exciting to see it come back and it making a big comeback in the fashion world.
