Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayah Dyson. Mayah and her team shared her story with us below:
Mayah Dyson, an R&B artist hailing from Atlanta, GA, by way of Woodbridge, Virginia, is a proud alumna of the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
Mayah’s journey in the limelight began with a breakthrough on Kelly Rowland’s inaugural season of “Chasing Destiny”, aired on BET. Her talent shone brightly as she graced the stage alongside Solange Knowles on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and most recently sang background vocals for the iconic R&B legend India Arie. Mayah also had to opportunity to be a part of Kanye West’s ‘Donda’ album.”
Her musical journey culminated in the release of her debut EP “Elevation” in November 2017, now available on all major music streaming platforms. Her discography boasts recent releases, including the heartfelt single “Temporary.”
In 2023, Mayah Dyson ventured into entrepreneurship, founding “MDD Entertainment.” This venture enables audiences globally to experience her remarkable talent through performances at various national and international venues. Additionally, she co-produces the highly acclaimed R&B concert series, “It’s Happening,” alongside her esteemed business partner, Jandé.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road.
My biggest obstacle is dealing with the ups and downs that come along with being an independent artist, but I still appreciate every part of my journey thus far. I look forward to my future while also appreciating where I am in my present. I also wouldn’t change any of my past experiences because all of my experiences have molded me into the person that I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer. I also write music, produce music, and vocal produce/vocal arrange! I also curate R&B concerts called “It’s Happening!”
I am proud of “It’s Happening” because my business partner, Jandé, and I started this idea in my kitchen and it has turned into something so beautiful! I enjoy providing independent artists with a safe space to share their talent and gain visibility in Atlanta!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Multiple streams of income are key!!
