Conversations with Megan Small

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Small.

Hi Megan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Wildblumen Ink in 2013 to provide a service to friends and family who were wanting original watercolors of homes, family and pet portraits, invitations and stationery. I love to be creative and painting is the perfect outlet. This may be in the form of a personalized gift or a treasured keepsake. I can also be contacted for business commissions, logo design, and web/blog illustrations.

I have had opportunities for commissioned works from such companies as Ivivva Athletica (created by Lululemon), Swoozie’s, NCR, and local schools in Atlanta. She is also featured on the wedding blog, Snippet & Ink for her wedding invitations and flower watercolors. I also work as a workshop teacher with Make + Do Community Workshops. I have taught classes virtually with companies like Pinterest and in-person classes all over the Atlanta area including the 2021 Chickfila Peach Bowl.

Megan has always loved the arts. She grew up dancing and has worked in the marketing field as well as retail, fashion and photo styling. Megan attended Auburn University and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). She is a wife and mother of a young family and Wildblumen Ink opens up a way for her to work from home.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always pros and cons to every job or business opportunity. Being your own boss of your own company is always challenging because you wear many hats and you need to be successful at all aspects of the business. You are constantly learning new ways to do different tasks. Being an artist is always constant and it sometimes is hard to turn off work mode at the end of the night.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a watercolor artist. I have two different paths for my work. My first is just to create paintings or commissions for clients. My favorite things to paint are houses and pet portraits. I also love to do abstract art and personalized requests. I also design invitations and paper goods for clients. I use original art to create these designs. I am most proud of myself for starting this business and going out on my own. I have 4 elementary school-aged kids and this career path enables me to stay at home with them.
