Today we’d like to introduce you to Mercedes Walker.
Hi Mercedes, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got my start in Central Florida, Polk County to be exact, where I naturally found myself bringing women together, hosting conversations, and encouraging collaboration long before I realized it was my purpose. When I began attending networking events and intentionally putting myself in different rooms, I noticed something: many women in the same field didn’t even know each other. I would meet a woman doing incredible work and think, “How do you not know so-and-so? Y’all are in the same lane, in the same hometown.”
Seeing that gap sparked something in me. I became passionate about creating a community where women could genuinely connect, collaborate, and be more intentional about supporting each other.
That passion eventually grew into what is now Ladies in Motion — a community built on three pillars: media, marketing, and mentoring. Our mission is to connect women in business, amplify their voices, and celebrate their wins.
That same realization is also how my podcast, Talk It Out, was born. I wanted to create a platform that spotlights women who are winning — women who others should know. Talk It Out became a space where stories are shared, connections are made, and visibility is created for women who deserve to be seen and supported.
Since relocating to Atlanta, the city has embraced both me and the Ladies in Motion brand. I’m grateful to continue building a space where women show up boldly, confidently, and unapologetically in motion.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all — nothing about this journey has been easy, but it has absolutely been worth it. When I moved to Atlanta, it was in the middle of the pandemic. I bought a one-way ticket without a full plan, but with a full purpose. I knew I wanted to grow into the woman God called me to be, and I always believed that Ladies in Motion was meant to be more than local — I saw it as a global brand from the beginning.
Even with that vision, starting over in a new city by myself came with real challenges. I questioned whether I’d make friends, whether people would embrace Ladies in Motion, whether I’d be good at my job, and whether I truly had what it would take to lead this brand in a new environment. The only thing I had to lean on was my faith. Philippians 4:13 is my anchor: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
One of the biggest struggles wasn’t resources — it was mindset. Through Ladies in Motion, I always encourage women to walk boldly in their purpose. But I had to face the truth that I wasn’t fully doing that myself. I was tiptoeing in my purpose. Once I realized that, everything shifted. I made a conscious decision to stop shrinking, stop second-guessing, and start walking boldly in what God gave me.
That mindset shift changed everything. I became intentional again. I started putting myself in rooms in Atlanta just like I did in Central Florida. I made Ladies in Motion non-negotiable — not an afterthought, but a priority, because it is my purpose.
And once I aligned with that, the doors opened. Visibility increased, the community grew, and I finally began to see the fruits of my labor. My greatest challenge has been getting out of my own head, trusting the process, and giving myself permission to show up boldly — just like I tell the women in my community to do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Ladies in Motion is a women-centered community built on connection, collaboration, and celebration. Our mission is to empower women in business to collab, not compete by creating intentional spaces where they can grow, network, and support one another.
We specialize in three core areas: media, marketing, and mentoring.
Under our media platform, we spotlight women who are winning through our podcast Talk It Out, behind-the-scenes coverage, event hosting, photography, and videography. Visibility matters, and we’re committed to amplifying women’s voices, stories, and brands.
Under marketing, we create spaces that bring women together consistently and intentionally. Beginning January 2026, we’re launching our quarterly co-working sessions — held every first Thursday of each quarter — where women can hold each other accountable, set goals, and stay in motion together. Collaboration happens when women are actually in the room, and we love cultivating those rooms.
We also curate fun, meaningful, and impactful events throughout the year. Our next major event is our Annual Vision Board Party, themed Planning to a T, happening Sunday, March 1st, 2026 at The Modern ATL (5076 Winters Chapel Road). This tea-party-inspired experience will feature a phenomenal panel of powerhouse women dropping gems to help attendees plan, prepare, and show up boldly for the year ahead.
Under mentoring, we’re preparing to launch our Lady Like Mentoring Program in August 2026, where we’re committed to “Bringing Out The Queens in Teens”— empowering young girls to find their purpose early, build confidence, and connect with positive role models in their community. We also offer etiquette training for teens as well.
Our website is currently being finalized and will officially launch on Christmas Day. Leading up to the launch, we’ll be hosting a festive 12 Days of Christmas Countdown with fun surprises and giveaways. We encourage everyone to follow us on all social media platforms to stay updated and join in.
Overall, we create intentional, creative, and empowering spaces for women to connect with one another, collaborate across industries, and be celebrated for the work they are doing. Ladies in Motion is more than a brand — it’s a movement, and we’re just getting started.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was the only girl in a household with three brothers, so I was definitely built tough — but also deeply grounded, loved, and poured into. I like to say I was queen-raised, and I mean that wholeheartedly. I was surrounded by powerful, dynamic women — my mother, my grandmother, and my aunts — who taught me what it means to carry myself like a lady, to lead with grace, and to understand that every action doesn’t deserve a reaction. Those lessons shaped me from childhood into my 30’s.
Personality-wise, I was always talkative, outgoing, and full of life. It’s no surprise that I now host a podcast — I’ve always loved to talk, laugh, meet new people, and hear their stories. Even as a kid, I was the one dancing/singing, asking questions, and connecting with everyone around me. I loved music, I loved conversation, and I loved understanding people’s backgrounds and experiences. That curiosity still fuels me today, especially in the work I do with Talk It Out.
Faith also played a huge role in my upbringing. I grew up in the best church, and that’s where I discovered my gifts. Church taught me community, service, confidence, and the importance of using your voice with purpose. It’s where I learned I could grab a microphone and speak in front of people — something that now shows up in my hosting, interviewing, and leadership within Ladies in Motion.
My childhood was filled with love, good food, and great memories. My parents rooted me in Christ early and instilled in me the belief that I could do anything I put my mind to. My dad always emphasized writing down goals, and that stuck with me — even today, I’m still the woman with a million journals, always planning, dreaming, and executing.
I do have a sister as well, but growing up in the house as the only girl with three brothers shaped my confidence, my strength, and my personality. I’ve always been assertive — a little bossy even — and now I smile because I’ve grown into the boss I always felt I was becoming.
Overall, my childhood was amazing. It gave me discipline, joy, personality, purpose, and a strong foundation — all of which now show up in the woman I am, and in the Ladies in Motion brand.
