Today we’d like to introduce you to Monet Lisa.

Monet Lisa

Hi Monet, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Atlanta, GA but grew up in the Clayton County area. When I was younger, I always used to tell everyone when I grow up, I wanted to be a model, actress, and singer basically all of the above. Of course, my parents always encouraged me but at school kids weren’t always so nice to me which brought down my confidence. So for years as a young child, I struggled with my confidence and figuring out who I was. As soon as I got to my last year of high school, I finally began coming out of the hiding hole I was in and started to be myself again and regain confidence. I simply stopped caring what others thought about me and started caring about what I thought about me. I started dressing in what made me comfortable and making visions of my own. Which is how I got into modeling and doing creative concepts and from there I really started branding myself and putting my work out into the world using Instagram as my creative outlet.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth; I’ve had many trials and tribulations. I struggled with depression, anxiety, and eating disorders on my journey to becoming a creator. I was depressed because at times, I was looking at other people excel really fast in life and have so many dope opportunities, and I was wondering why I wasn’t moving as fast as them. I realized I had to slow down, and that comparison is the thief of joy. At times I have social anxiety because I think that people hate me and are judging me everywhere I go, but I realize it’s a mindset thing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a model/creative director/actress. I mostly specialize in modeling and creative directing. I find joy in bringing out my personality in my outfits and putting them into pictures to tell a story. Most people see me and think of the girl who always has on a nice outfit kind of like an inspiration. That’s really what my main goal is to inspire women, specifically black women, that we can do anything we put our minds to. I’m most proud of my will to get back up after being pushed down. Most people get into a funk and stay down for a little while. I refuse to stay down because the only way is up from here.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself: Too many people in the world are trying to be like others and follow trends. The best thing you can do is to be YOU. Being yourself will get you so far in life. I wish I knew people’s opinions don’t matter at the end of the day, there’s always going to be someone who doesn’t like what you’re wearing and who you are but you just have to continue to do you.
