Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Edwards.
Hi Morgan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in music when I popped out the womb to be honest. My mom is a very talented singer, and she used to literally make me cry every time she sang when I was younger. She comes from a very musical background, and it inspired me to continue to build on that legacy. My dad is from Antigua and Barbuda, and a lot of my family on his side are also musically/creatively inclined. He is also a very talented producer himself. I have music running through literally all my veins. Because of life circumstances, I never truly went to start my career in music until I went off to college. I started as an artist (seriously) when I was 20 years old but was always writing & creating music most of my life. I actually gained a love for instruments when I was very young. My Nana & my Great Uncle Kevin used to sit with me at the piano whenever I came to visit in Texas, and something always pulled me towards that instrument. Fast forward, I played piano for a year, then realized I wanted something different. Something more Interesting. In 6th grade, we got called to check out the Orchestra, Band, & Chorus departments at my school. I remember saying that I wanted to be in Band because they take a trip to Disney every year lol! But then we got in the Orchestra room and I was SOLD. I saw the violin and I saw the cello. I knew I wanted to play one of those beautiful instruments. I went with violin and I ended playing for 7 years. I still sang but I knew I wanted to somewhat master a physical instrument before anything. Violin became my home away from home honestly. I was going through a lot of family changes in high school and violin was the one thing that kept a smile on my face. When I got to college, I wanted to major in Music but I ended up becoming a Comparative Women’s Studies Major at Spelman College. This changed my life. Spelman helped mold me into the woman I am today. I decided in my Women’s Studies major, I wanted to focus of Women in Music. So I began to study the evolution of women in music, business wise & creative wise. I also was super involved with the music scene on campus, from doing different performances to hosting events with Morehouse Music Group for the creatives in the AUC. I secured 2 internships in college that allowed me to be where I am today. My first internship was at Summer Walker’s label, LVRN. And my second internship was with BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.). BMI truly changed my life. I’ve learned so much through their guidance, but mostly by just being in the room. I knew that if I was going to be an artist, I NEED to know the business. I have to know all the small things that go into our favorite songs charting. I began to grow a love of helping people and decided I was going to go full time in the industry straight out of college if I could. And I did. I’m now currently employed at BMI in the Atlanta office on the Creative team. They have taught me about how important relationships are and that’s why I started my creative collective, The Lnk Up, a year ago. The Lnk Up is my baby. My growing baby collective. We host live shows for the artists/musicians who think performing/expressing is too hard to reach. I want to help people pull out that gift that they’ve been sitting on and to come EXPRESS IT! I wish I had the space I created when I first started, but that’s why I created it now. I also get on stage a sing at the open mics I host. Mind you, I only throw shows with a live band and I plan on keeping it that way!! The Lnk Up has inspired me in so many ways and has only allowed me to focus even more on my own artistry. New music is coming in 2026 !!!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been far from smooth. It’s been testing. Being a hustler at my core, I don’t know how to sit down anyways so the high-paced environment excites me!
I will say I have learned so much. There have been moments where I’ve cried and there will be more. But God gets me through it every single time. I think the struggle of starting in this industry is the fact that I was still finding myself even when I thought I had found myself. I kept learning new things about myself (good & bad) that started to stress me out and it showed in my performance sometimes (on stage & in the office). Now I can say, I know the stage that I’m creating and it’s powerful.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer, songwriter & experience curator. In college, I sang at the local open mics but also performed in student organized showcases!
Right now, I’m mostly known for my work I’m doing around the music community. I love hosting live music shows through my organization, The Lnk Up. We strive to empower creatives and push them to perform outside of their comfort zone. I’m most proud of this accomplishment because I love music and I love people (especially creatives).
What sets me apart from others is the fact that I genuinely don’t care about climbing any ladder. I’m intentionally building a solid foundation for the legacy I plan to leave when my time here is done.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was definitely the creative junkie kid. I picked up so many different creative hobbies and made them my own. I’m actually still like this today haha! Personality wise, I was always a little bossy lol, but I was always sweet! I always was very energetic too. I wanted to sing, dance, play instruments, & star in theatrical plays.
I haven’t made it to acting just yet, but I will one day!
My dad being Caribbean and my mom being Urban Country with both of them having a musical background, it caused me to love anything that would allow me to express myself.
