Today we’d like to introduce you to Mya Mayes.
Hi Mya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to be my own boss, it was like this fire inside that I could never put out. That fire started when I was in 6/7th grade sitting in class with my notebook writing out my legit business plan at such a young age. I always found myself researching what tools I needed to make sure once I popped out it was going to be big. Now DatrapBoutique wasn’t always “datrapboutique” I started off with my original brand TRAPPINMINKS, which I had launched my senior year of high school in 2020. So Even though I was sitting on this plan for years, it took me a while to really get it into motion. See one thing about God’s Timing: it’s always perfect timing. I had to hustle to fund my dream and grow a lot, like a whole lot before I really became a business owner. During that time though I was researching many lash vendors until I found the perfect one. I created my own logo, and then 2020 came and I launched which was a huge success. I stayed selling out. I loved it. That feeling inside you get when something you work so hard on comes out to be better than you expected is unexplainable.
After selling lashes for a while, I was like “okay time for something more” so that’s when I started “datrap boutique”. Datrap was made for the girls who wanna feel just like these social media influencers but on a budget. I made my business to really give confidence to women of all sizes. I’m really big on confidence and making sure women know they are “that girl” at all times. It took me a while to realize that myself. To genuinely look in the mirror and be happy with what was looking back at me when I put something on or just in general overall. So I went and started looking into clothing vendors, searching for nothing but the best for my business. I eventually found one vendor who came through for my vision. Out of all the vendors I went through only one made the cut of my expectation which is really where most of my stress came from because these vendors will definitely play in your face fr. I took so many losses with these vendors it was insane, but I made it through by the grace of God every time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like everyone else I definitely faced many obstacles throughout my journey. Personal and Business related, not just issues with vendors. It would be those days or those weeks when business is booming then goes from booming to slow to nothing at all. These days aren’t for the weak, it would really have you thinking “What am I doing wrong?”. So every time I had those days, I felt myself taking a step back. I would even have to pray and make sure taking a pause on my business was the best move. When I prayed I was hearing this voice tell me “too take a break” and I would listen for a little while then boom it was back to business lol. Then ended up back at square one because God was trying to tell me something. I was impatient, that’s my biggest flaw being impatient wanting everything now at that moment and I felt like if I took too long of a break, it was pushing me further away from my goal. Which in reality it wasn’t if I listen to God and continue to Trust God. If it’s for me, it’s going to happen regardless of how much time it takes to get there because in the end, it’s going to be worth it.

So right now I’m not only a business owner but I am an inspiring content creator and influencer alongside being a professional car builder. I work at BMW and help make the BMW SUVs. It’s not easy it’s definitely a physical job that can make or break you but it definitely helps me build character because one day my business will be a multimillion-dollar company just like BMW so I take notes and watch and see how the million-dollar men and women carry themselves so I can mold myself into a million dollar woman but better. Working a “9-5” is temporary I do believe you have to crawl before you walk because I know it’s God taking me through these trails to build me and show me many things including on how I would run my company and show me what type of people I want around to help build my company.
Working at BMW, I’m most proud of how it’s teaching me how to not allow my emotions to make decisions for me. I can’t lie, I’m an emotional person but as I get older, I can’t allow myself to keep allowing my emotions to be in control when I’m in control over my overall self. See that’s something I think helps me stand out at such of young age, I’m okay with criticism and change. If I’m wrong or lacking, teach me so I can grow. I’m not afraid of change because that’s what helps me become stronger than ever before. I will genuinely be proud of myself when I grow and break old habits to gain new ones and I think another thing that sets me aside is that I don’t settle for anything, not when I bring the table. See I tell people ion bring nothing to the table because I’m bringing the whole table I’m very confident and I know my worth at the end of the day
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years my business and myself will be bigger than ever. My corporation office will open along with my boutique stores opening up across the country. I will be having the top hottest influencers and models rocking my clothing just women across the country period just helping me brand and get bigger over the years. My main goal over these next years is to build generational wealth for me and my family. I wanna leave my mark on this earth as being not only one of the youngest to do it but one of the youngest to do it and everything else with genuine intentions. I see my influencer/ content career doing wonders as well. I’m definitely going to make my mark forreal. With God on my side, anything is possible and I’m welcoming in all the good that’s for me. Understand when I say I’m going to be the biggest it’s no other way around it. I’m not letting up at all! All gas no breaks!
