Today we’d like to introduce you to Myles Poindexter.
Hi Myles, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
On December 7th 2003 I was born and raised in Suwanee, GA. In 2015 at the age of twelve my whole life changed as my mom, dad brother and I moved half way across the country to Denver, Colorado for a job opportunity. It was hard leaving our family, friends and life as I knew it behind. And we all struggled to acclimate to our new home and our new life. We faced racism, adversity and some of the loneliest times of our lives. But this sudden shift would be the best decision we could make. In our times of isolation we found comfort in our hobbies and strength we never knew we had. Before I left Georgia I always loved going outside and playing video games with my friends. But suddenly going to school with no recognizable faces and being the 1 of the only 10 black kids in the k-12 district, made it difficult to make new friends and continue living the life I knew. So I focused on my other passions, video games and watching YouTube. Video fames allowed me to laugh and talk to my family and friends just like we used to. They allowed me to be myself without people caring about what I looked like. I was around people that had similar interests as me and wanted to hang out with me. YouTube gave me comfort by allowing me to laugh and reminisce on fun moments I used to have and could have with my friends on the game. This became my life and as I got older I wanted to create more of those unforgettable moments I saw on YouTube with my friends. I wanted to give others the smile, warmth and comfort YouTubers gave me during my hardest times. I wanted people to see my videos on their feed and get excited to kick back and laugh. I wanted to be something people could rely on and always be there for a good time. So I stared my YouTube channel MylesJK. The name and content has changed over the years since its conception but the purpose as always been the same. I still work and upload with the same goal every time. And that’s to inspire and bring a smile to people’s face just like others had done for me. Especially my favorite YouTuber of all time CoryxKenshin.
I’ve recently moved back to Georgia for who knows how long but after learning and growing so much from my first move I am willing to go wherever life takes me. And like my mom always says “Change is the only constant in life” and “20% of life is what happens to you, 80% is how you respond to it.” Now I’m also a soon to be Graduate student from MSU Denver. With a major in marketing and a certification in digital marketing. I hope to make a meaningful impact on YouTube and the world as a whole. And maybe one day even edit trailers for some of my favorite video games. But at the very least I want to be happy and make enough money to live comfortably, eat good food and have plenty of time to play some video games with my friends.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Loneliness was a big challenge for me growing up. I felt like I had to do everything on my own and nobody could relate to my situation or my struggles. I also felt like I was to blessed to complain about life and that others deserved more than I did.

I specialize in video editing, scripting/story boarding, compilations/montages and comedy.
I’m most proud my ability to never give up. And I think that sets me apart from others Even when I do quit, or I don’t won’t to do something or I complain about it. I know that i can do it. And every single I don’t spend trying bothers me more than anything.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the culture, the people and the food.
People in Georgia love to be themselves and they are some of the most creative and inspiring people I’ve ever met.
I don’t like the traffic tho so I like to stay inside.
