Today we’d like to introduce you to Nana Reckless.
Hi Nana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I was little, I was the sibling putting on full shows in the living room, dragging everybody into dance routines and acting like we were on TV. In high school I was in theater arts, so performing has always been my thing. I stayed doing my makeup, dressing up, flipping through fashion magazines, and walking around in my mom’s heels like they were mine. I’ve just always been a diva at heart, so everything I’m doing now with content and music is really just me growing into the same girl I’ve been since day one. I first started going viral back in high school. In fact, I’m on my third Instagram account now LOL but my pictures and even my memes have always taken off.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve dealt with people trying to intentionally sabotage me, friends who I thought were my friends hating on me, and I’ve dated people that straight hated on me and did not want to see me shine whatsoever, even if it cost them something. I’ve also dealt with dating people who were insecure or couldn’t handle who I am because they liked the idea of me more than the reality, and that can be a major setback on its own. I’ve had to get used to people copying me, giving me no credit, or trying to pass things off as theirs, but that’s the price of being me.
I’ve always had a spark and a light in me, and you can see that when I walk in a room, and people have tried to take that from me constantly. I’m still growing and learning, especially when people don’t understand me or have the wrong perception of me without actually knowing who I am. Balancing who I am, or even making music that may not reflect every single thing, has interfered with my personal and romantic relationships and with staying consistent. Even with all of that, I still do my best to be true to myself because I know it’ll all work out for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do a lot, and that’s honestly the point. I’m an artist, a creator, a performer, and a personality all in one. I make music, I create content, I build aesthetics, I tap into beauty and fashion, and I know how to entertain people in a way that feels effortless. I’m known for my presence, my look, my vibe, and the way I can switch it up and still make it feel like me.
What I’m most proud of is how versatile I am. I didn’t box myself into one thing, because that isn’t me. I built my brand in a way where people can scroll through my pages and literally wonder what I don’t do. That range sets me apart. I can be anything. Everything I do comes from my personality, my music taste and my creativity, and that’s why people connect with it the way they do. It’s all over the place.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I feel like my whole life has been about taking risks, even when I didn’t realize it. I can often be very impulsive, which is a stronger hand a weakness of mine. The biggest one so far was moving to Atlanta. That was a huge shift for me but I knew if I wanted to grow, I had to put myself somewhere that matched my energy and my goals at the time. That move changed a lot for me. I’m about to take an even bigger risk within the next year. I can’t say too much yet, but it’s something that’s going to push me out of my comfort zone in the best way. That’s how I look at risk. If it makes me a little nervous and a little excited at the same time, then it means I need to do it.
Every time I put myself out there, I’m taking a risk. But betting on myself and investing in myself has always been worth it.
