Conversations with Neema Naz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neema Naz.

Hi Neema, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in November 2014 on YouTube. I just dropped out of university to pursue my passion which was Comedy and Acting. I applied to get into the comedy program right away at Humber College in Toronto. I knew I was destined to do it. Fast forward to February 2015 where I do the audition to get into the program and literally 2 days later I get a call saying I got in. Ever since then, I haven’t turned back. My dad instilled this drive in me from the beginning by telling me, “if you’re going to do this, go all in” and that’s been my motto ever since. With consistency and effort every day, slowly but surely I started reaching my goals in standup, sketch, and content online. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my family and friends and the belief I’ve always had in myself from the very beginning.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Pursuing comedy has been one of the toughest, most challenging things in my life. From all the travel, losing money, dealing with shitty people just to get stage time to better my skills, it was draining. Despite all the struggles, I haven’t been happier. I’ve had the most fun doing what I’m doing every day. Without the failures along the way, whether it was tanking on stage or online, I wouldn’t have grown into the comedian/actor/human I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a standup comedian, sketch comedian, content creator, actor, writer, musician, dancer and producer. I’d like to think I’m a jack of all trades within the entertainment world. I specialize in hustling and being authentic to who I am on and off stage/online. I am easy to work with because I genuinely love what I do and I know that kindness can go a long way. I believe that it doesn’t matter how talented you are, if you don’t have a plan and constantly working on yourself to be better and aren’t easy to work with, none of this matters.

I think with my drive to be a high-performance human/performer with the right team around me, I will become one of the greatest comedians/entertainers this world has seen.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve learned that it’s okay to fail and not know things and accept that you always have room for improvement. Also, to never judge yourself in the process. Everyone has their own path to worry about so just stay focused on yours and your time will come
