Conversations with Nia Sinkler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Sinkler.

Hi Nia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I found out I had a true passion for food when I was in elementary. My mother was the type to always make home-cooked meals and homemade desserts. I would always watch her and took mental notes on what to do. For years I would cook for my siblings and my close friends. They would tell me I should start selling plates. I use to shrug at the idea because I doubted myself. I wanted to perfect myself before I committed to that. It took years for me to finally see I have a gift and others see that.

I had that moment of realization after I made my banana pudding and peach cobbler cheesecake egg rolls for my friends Frank, Kayla, Nik, and My oldest sons teachers. They told me it was the best they have had in years and I needed to stop doubting myself and sell it ! I went home after that and came up with my business name and started crafting a food and dessert menu. I began sharing my food and treats with my friends and their folks. They loved everything and referred others. I finally was given the opportunity to work out of a kitchen doing my menu at the American Legion and it’s been a hit ever since. Nini’s Kitchen & Purpose Sweet Treatss literally made a small dent in this industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth journey for me. I had a lot of lows during the ride. From losing my passion and drive due to a bad wreck after having a child and becoming homeless at one point. I had to not only find myself again I had to perfect my craft after giving up on it for some years. When I tried to get back to cooking and baking, the depression was winning. I had to relearn things since I suffered from memory loss and I had to learn how to work through pain at times since my back was messed up.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a cook. I specialize in making homecooked meals and made from scratch desserts. My most known treats are my caramel banana pudding, peach cobbler cheesecake eggrolls with a caramel cinnamon icing, and my stuffed donuts. My most known meal is my chicken & beef PHILLY rolls and my crabbed stuffed salmon with a creamy cajun sauce. I am most proud of my treats. They aren’t your average treats. I make everything with a twist and it’s always made from scratch so it’s not just something you can get out a store. My stuffed donuts are literally one of kind. With flavors ranging from banana pudding to strawberry cheesecake. What sets me apart from others are the little surprises my food and treats have. It gives people a taste of a grandmothers/mothers cooking. Folks tend to be shocked to learn I’m behind the meals because they are expecting an older woman. The Nini’s experience is something that will always leave a mark in your tastebuds.

What matters most to you?
My children, family, and friends are what matters to me most. My children were the first to try most of my treats and meals. My oldest is always telling his teachers and friends what I make. It’s how I got that push to make something out of this. I want to leave a mark in this world so they can see their mom made something from nothing even when odds were against mean. When it comes to my friends/family, they are literally who were my support ! Listening to my lows and highs. They would tell me what I can do better and always making videos of what I made. They gave me light when I was in the dark. It’s like a high you get to see them genuinely enjoying your creations and recommending you to others. Food is my love language in every way so having food that gives people comfort and have them wanting more is my drive to keep going. Having children and friends that want to see you when that’s all I could ever need. I thank Frank for all the phone calls and text to help me on this business help.
