Conversations with Olivia Cooper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Cooper.

Hi Olivia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been performing for as long as I can remember and acting has always been in my DNA. Growing up I was constantly involved in stage plays, and when I got to high school I discovered a new passion for filmmaking. I started writing, shooting, and editing my own short films, often starring in them myself. By the time I graduated, I had already created award-winning projects and realized I could turn my creative vision into a real career.

From there I submitted my work to J Pervis Talent Agency, who immediately signed me and began sending me out for auditions. Before long I was on set for Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns” on TBS, and that moment really launched my professional acting journey.

Along the way I picked up a camera and began shooting nightlife photography around the city. That quickly got my name out there and led to opportunities directing music videos, shooting magazine spreads, brand campaigns, weddings, and commercial projects. I eventually built a full media company from the ground up but later stepped away from that to pursue a freelance marketing and branding career for companies, which allowed me more flexibility and time to focus on acting. That is when I booked the major Netflix series “Cobra Kai.”

Today I am represented by multiple agencies for both acting and modeling, and I continue to create through film, music, and media. My life is a constant flow of new projects, creativity, and excitement, with each chapter building on the last.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a fun ride, but not always a smooth one. The freelance world of video, photography, acting, and modeling can be very up and down. You face a lot of rejection, and there are many distractions along the way. Early on I can admit that I distracted myself with things that took away from my focus. I was always doing a lot and maybe more than most, but I realized one day that I wasn’t performing to the best of my capabilities.

That was the moment I decided to make real changes. I eliminated a lot of distractions, got sober, started hitting the gym consistently, and spent more time with my family and closest friends. I stopped going out and partying and really honed in on my focus. Since doing that, I’ve been able to maximize my potential and take my career to the next level.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My main business centers around video, photography, marketing, and branding. That’s what has always paid the bills and kept me connected to my creative side. My favorite situations are when a company recognizes that I can bring a full vision to life for them and gives me the space to do that—often in a salary or contracted position where I handle all of their marketing and branding materials from start to finish.

I’m passionate about working with companies that understand I’m not just a marketer, but also a dedicated creative pursuing a career in acting and modeling. I have auditions regularly, and I make sure to balance that by building strong teams around me who can help execute each project’s goals under my leadership. Whether I’m calling the shots or rolling up my sleeves and doing the work myself, I take pride in being a one-stop shop for all things media, marketing, and brand development.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I also have a deep passion for making music. Music has always been my outlet to express creativity on every level. Whether it is writing songs, producing tracks, directing or editing the music videos, it allows me to bring together everything I love including acting, modeling, performing, marketing, and branding. When I have the inspiration and the means, I love to tell stories through music. It is a therapeutic process that helps me put my thoughts and experiences into words, whether they are drawn from real life or creatively imagined.

I have released many projects over the years, and it is something I do purely for myself. Interestingly, my music has also led to opportunities for company work because it showcases the full range of what I can do creatively. My dream is to build complete financial freedom through my creative work so I can continue making music whenever I feel inspired, without being controlled by a label or outside ownership.

With the internet and modern technology, we now have the power to self distribute, connect directly with fans, and create our own path. That is something I am very passionate about. At the end of the day, all my art forms are connected. Every job I take and every project I make feels like a hobby because there is nothing else I would rather be doing than creating.
