Hi Patrice, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Patrice and I am the owner of Patreats Boutique. Patreats Boutique is a bath and body product line that was birthed during COVID pandemic as a mode to become productive during the pandemic. What started out as a hobby quickly turned into a business due to the overwhelming interest that I started receiving. I am enjoying the experience and I am constantly learning, growing & improving my craft. What started as a ‘soap shop’ quickly expanding and we now currently sell soaps, body oils, body butters, and shower steamers, and are always thinking of ways to expand. We have started doing themed collections throughout the year. One collection being ‘happy hour’ and are we are currently on ‘for mature audiences’ collection which is a more sophisticated line. We curate party/event favors for any party, as well as customizing any one of our products to accommodate a person’s needs and wants.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggle has been consistency. I have not been able to sit down and grasp everything about running a business. Up until 2022, it has been a hobby business. I am yearning to progress on to the next level and really focus and grow my business. I have been able to stay afloat financially but now I really need to do more so that I can grow more and that means more revenue dishing out rather than in. There are also the slow down times, where sales are slow. Then they are times where things are moving so fast and for now, I am a one-woman show. There’s also the times where I just lose my motivation and no longer want to run the business. But onward and upward! Haha!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started working my first official job at the age of 15. I was excited because it wasn’t an internship or school related. I was a part-time office assistant. I would catch the bus to my job after school three days out the week and work until the office closed. I made my own money and I was so proud. From then until now I have never been without a job. That job taught me the value of hard work, self-discipline and knowledge of great leadership.
Fast forward, it feels so amazing to have my own business and be my own boss. I still have a full-time job, which I love, but Patreats Boutique is mine and one day I can expand and hire my own team!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I believe in the saying “slow and steady wins the race”. I would love for Patreats Boutique to take off. Where? Wherever it wants to go. Up until this point, my business has had a mind of its own. It’s a difference between Patrice Petersen and Patreats Boutique and I can’t really explain it. Right now, my focus in 2023. I’d love to be in more stores. Big name stores. I’d love more commission work (party/event favors), customizations, etc. My main goal is to work on becoming an official business and not just a paid hobby. I keep thinking about rebranding and honestly that scares me but this is where I’m at right now. One day at a time. Step by step. What’s meant to happen will happen.
