Conversations with Pershard Owens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pershard Owens

Hi Pershard, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I first realized I had a love for music in the church. Both my dad and mom’s side had musical talents, so it kind of came natural. I began doing talent shows and continue to feed my curiosity for music. My love for music led me have a charting song in the UK called “Save Me”, having a song featured in a Hugo Boss ad, being on The Kelly Clarkson Show, just to name a few accomplishments.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been extremely bumpy. Being a dark skinned independent male artist is not for the weak. You have the societal pressure to look a certain way, that sadly has not gotten any better. Then, there is the balancing of words and feeling that you aren’t “asking for too much”, in fear of being labeled as demanding, when in reality, you’re actually just asking for what you need to be successful. No matter what obstacle thought I keep pushing through.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an entertainer/singer. I’m focused on the House music genre. That’s what I am known for right now. I’m most proud of my constant drive and never give up attitude. Yea, I could’ve listed awards and such, but my drive and mental strength is something to be extremely proud of. What sets me apart is the fact that I cross all boundaries, I don’t box myself in. Today I’m doing House music, tomorrow it could be Opera, you just never know. It’s the great thing about being an artist.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson, for Me, is to keep God first and always remember that every ‘No’ is protection. I had to come to a realization that being delayed doesn’t mean denied, it just means not right now!!
