Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Jordan.
Hi Phillip, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always knew from the beginning I wanted to be a star(now an entertainer, mogul). For a long time, I let outside influences dictate my decisions, so I put music on the backburner while I grew. It wasn’t until my freshman year of college when I was a business major and realized that wasn’t for me and had gotten back into songwriting, that music wasn’t going anywhere. I recorded my first song “Dreams” in 2018 in my friends dorm room. From there I started working on making beats and what not then eventually found an engineer (Wisdom Bibbs) that was right for me and it was on from there. I released my first project in January of 2020 called “THEDEMOTAPE” (rereleased in October 2021 with two new songs) and two consecutive ones that year “Wish U were Here” and “Need Each Other + Deluxe”. Need Each Other In particular allowed me to grow into myself and my artistry and helped gain so many new supporters (my PJs <3) and now i’m gearing to release a holiday project(Holiday Heartbreak) and my debut album (TBA) in early next year. i’m excited for people to finally get to see me in the most vulnerable form i’ve ever been.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been hard at times but worth it. I wouldn’t trade any mistake, bad performance, bad song, anything because it all made me who I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So you know the term Nostalgia? Its that feeling you get when you think of a memory/ past event that gives you either a good or bad feeling. but regardless you feel something?! Yea that’s the feeling i’ve realized that calls me when i listen to songs. I’ve finally got that sound where I want it with my debut album and I am excited for everyone to hear it. I’ve gotten more confident than ever and even picked up a little alter ego for myself “PJ” that is everything for me when Phillip Jordan can’t be. I make music for people who like to vibe in their rooms or take a good night drive and just listen to their favorite songs and feel. Feel those memories of past love, hurt, loss, and whatever my song brings out for the listener. That’s who I am at this point in my life.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In 5-10 years I see myself being a household name. Being respected, inspiring, and truly making a mark in the entertainment industry. I see myself with about 2-3 full albums under my belt, a couple Grammys, a successful tour (opening and headlining), launching several businesses, but most importantly giving back to the people who’ve gotten me to where I am. People who are homeless are where my heart lies the most. Actually going back to my hometown and several other states and just giving money, setting up jobs, rooms, etc. That’s gotta be tough and my heart always feels for anyone going through that.
