Conversations with Regina Sunshine Robinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Regina Sunshine Robinson

Hi Regina Sunshine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I love people. It’s a simple statement with so much depth. Everything I do starts there.

They call me Sunshine. When I was teaching at a technical college, a student gave me that name. He said, “You’re like sunshine. Everything is just better when you are around.” And once other students heard him, that’s what they all began calling me too.

When I started RSGN, it was with the goal of leading purpose driven projects that would help others achieve their dreams and leave people better than I found them. One of the 3 projects I’m most excited about now involves coaching new authors through the publishing process. The authors that seek me out are usually those with a difficult story to tell and they need empowerment coaching to be strong enough to live in a world where their book exists. I love so much the idea to manifestation process. And seeing these people operate in courage where previously there was only fear, has been a truly beautiful experience.

The second one is The Awesome Girl Project. In 2014 I founded the  Awesome Girl Awards to honor girls that were excelling in their individual gifts, talents and abilities and were striving to live lives of purpose. In 2019, to celebrate the 5th Award Show, we also launched the first Awesome Girl Book, “I Am An Awesome Girl.” This book included chapters by 25 Awesome Girls. My vision for that the book was that it was an opportunity for the girls to tell their stories and encourage other girls. Since then we have launched 3 additional books and given even more girls the chance to share their hearts and become published authors. We are currently working on book 5, an affirmation cookbook.

In 2020, the Awesome Girl Academy was founded from a request from a parent whose child was having difficulty being home away from her friends during the shutdown. This parent asked me if I would create a program that would allow me to interact with her daughter virtually, a few times a week, to bring some positive energy into her daughter’s days. Once I created an outline for our first week of meetings, this mother shared the information with other parents, and soon we had 5-7 girls in each of our meetings.

2022 was the hardest year of my life. Losing both of my parents in the last 2 months of the year…just 27 days apart, knocked the wind out of me. I was lost and didn’t know what to do next. So I go back to what I know…love, service and purpose. I will show love to others. I will give of my time and serve others. I will operate in my purpose to leave others better than I found them. This loss in my life and my desire to return to service birthed my newest project, the Finding My Way Back miniseries. This will be an opportunity for me and others who have comeback from a great loss to share there story in an effort to help others to find their way back. I am really excited to get back in front of the camera and share my heart in what I believe to be a life changing mission.

If I don’t know anything else, I know this work is eternal and at the end of my life I want to hear His “Well Done.”

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As I shared before, losing my parents 27 days apart is the thing that has been the biggest setback of my life. But even in that pain I have found more purpose. I will use what I have been through and what I have learned to help others.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My biggest risk was quitting my job and becoming a full time entrepreneur. It was also one of the best things I ever did. As a full time business owner, I eat what I kill. If I don’t kill anything, I don’t eat. What that means is it is all on me. If I hustle, create income, I can pay my bills. If I don’t, I can’t. There is no one coming to save me. I took that risk and bet on me, and I am forever grateful that I did.

I would rather do that and have failed than to wonder my whole life if I could have been successful.
