Today we’d like to introduce you to Rudy Live.
Hi Rudy Live, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Formally known as singer-songwriter “Rudy Live”. I am from ST. Thomas U.S.V.I. I grew up as the daughter to a father who was a dj, singer and business owner. I knew already from a young age I wanted to sing and also one day would own my own business.
My passion for music started at age seven when my dad would take me to his band rehearsals. I would watch him for hours and then would go home and mimic everything I saw in the bathroom mirror. I later started writing songs and free-styling reggae music around my school campus. Funny enough my friends started calling me Dance hall Queen.
Later on, I started winning local competitions in Atlanta. That’s when I started to take music more seriously. I recorded my first reggae song titled “No More“ which put me on the map amongst the DJs in Atlanta and back home in the Virgin Islands. After a few years passed, I moved back to the Virgin Islands and met up with a popular producer in Tortola BVI. That’s when I fell in love with Soca Music. This is when I first wrote my first soca song called “Come Closer”. That song really opened another door for me especially back home and in the soca community.
Everything happen so fast for me after that song. I started traveling and opening up at a lot of Caribbean events. I was also able to collaborate with the legendary king of soca calypso Machel Montano on a song titled “Wip it“.
Since then, I have written and produced various hits and soca albums. That can be found on www.Rudylive.com as well as Itunes, Youtube and Spotify.
When the pandemic hit a lot of my performances got canceled. I used that time to dig deep into my other passion skincare. From a young age, I had problematic skin. My great grandmother would always use homemade remedies and plants and herbs to put on my skin to sooth rashes and cuts I would have. I l then started to keep up with it and made my own natural butters, facial creams and oils to maintain and treat my skin. I decided to let my family and friends try it. They loved it that’s when my skincare line Good Ting Luxurious Skin Care was born. This is my first ever product line that was birthed right here in Atlanta.
Good Ting Luxurious Skincare was launched February 12, 2022 at Macys by Market Place in Snellville, Georgia. My handmade product line was sold out in two days. This is very big accomplishment for me and one I am very proud of. I have so many great ideas for my brand, and I look forward to becoming a household name in skincare worldwide.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an artist, it was never a smooth road. Early in my career, I became a mother. This was very hard for me trying to raise my son as a single parent and still have a career in music. While he was in school, I would have to rush back home to work on homework and projects. Spending quality time with him was a major priority but it was hard trying to keep up traveling and raising my firstborn.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Caribbean singer-songwriter from the USVI. I sing soca music. Soca music is what I call happy music, and I write and produce songs that make you want to dance and have fun. It’s a great way to express myself and connect with my Caribbean culture.
I also own my very own natural skincare line called Good Ting Luxurious Skin Care. All my products are natural and made with love with the very best top certified organic oils. My butter and oil helps keep your skin hydrated and soothes eczema and other problematic skin problems.
I’m proud of myself for following my dreams and not letting anything stop me from achieving greatness. Just knowing that this ain’t even my best me yet excites me more. I love a challenge and I love to push myself to the limit!
What sets me apart from others is my drive and determination. I want to be the first in my family to pass down generational wealth.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I take a lot of risks. When I first started in music career, I took my own savings and used all of it to make an album and do my own photoshoot. My family thought I was crazy but I believed in myself. Even with my skincare line. I knew my friends and family loved my products. But I was not sure if the world would. That was also a very big risk to invest in machines and products to create my Good Ting Luxurious Skin Care Line. I just stepped out on faith both times and did it.
