Conversations with Sabrina Mayo and Monique Mincey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Mayo and Monique Mincey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Sabrina’s response: Six years ago, I visited my mother in California. She let me know that her brain is not working right and she is moving to Georgia with me, and gave me orders to find her a place to stay where she can maintain her independence.
After moving to Georgia she had a complete physical done so I could understand the condition of her health. After being diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment from a neurologist who wanted to prescribe medication, I researched other alternatives and found another neurologist that prescribed hyperbaric oxygen therapy and did a brain pet scan before and after HBOT one year later. The second scan did show growth in the prefrontal cortex of her brain. She was then given a prescription for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. After several sessions and joining her in the chamber we decided to buy one. The family began to utilize HBOT as well for both athletic and overall wellness reasons and we all began to see multiple cognitive improvements, physiological benefits, and faster recovery time with other family members and my mother. This was especially heartwarming to see, as we’d all been aware of the gradual decline in my mother’s cognition.
In addition to utilizing the HBOT, we changed her diet, had a private chef prepare daily Mediterranean meals, made sure she was involved in as many activities within our community as her schedule would allow, and she spent quality family time around her great-grandchildren, grandchildren, and children. Her granddaughter, Monique, dedicated her days while her children were in school, spending time with her grandmother making sure she was where she needed to be while enjoying that quality time with each other.
Seeing the results, I wanted to provide a wellness center that would provide the same opportunity for my community. I would talk to my mother about the hyperbaric oxygen therapy business and we planned to open one in our neighborhood and she was going to work in it.
Then, October 30, 2024, God called her home with no suffering. He kept her alive for one day until all the family was able to come into town and say their final words of love to her. No nursing home or hospice. The last 5 years of her life in Georgia were her best years of life.
The same week, God led me to my business location.

Monique’s response: For me, my story with hyperbarics began through caring for both my children and my grandmother. My oldest daughter, Aniya, has always been passionate about soccer, but she struggled with recurring knee injuries each season. Eventually, after a serious kneecap dislocation, her orthopedic doctor suggested surgery. As a mom, hearing that recommendation for a 17-year-old—especially one preparing for college recruiting—was devastating.
At the time, I was also taking my grandmother to hyperbaric sessions. I decided to bring Aniya along to see if it could help with her recovery. To our amazement, she went from being told she’d be out for 10–12 weeks to returning to practice in just six weeks—the fastest recovery she’d ever had. From then on, I knew there was something special about hyperbaric oxygen therapy, especially when paired with physical therapy, strength training, and a healthy lifestyle.
I have two other daughters as well—one who competes in gymnastics (Skylar) and another who runs track and cheers (Payton). Both have also used hyperbaric therapy for recovery, easing minor injuries, reducing aches and pains, and boosting their energy and overall performance.
But the most powerful example for me—the true testament to what hyperbarics can do—came during Aniya’s senior year. Just days before graduation, she developed severe ear pain and headaches. Urgent care diagnosed an ear infection and prescribed antibiotics. But her symptoms worsened, and soon we noticed her face drooping on one side. A visit to the ER the morning before graduation revealed that she had Bell’s palsy—sudden paralysis on the left side of her face.
As a mom, it broke my heart. On what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, my daughter looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize herself. Doctors told us recovery could take six months to a year. But we were blessed to have guidance: get her into the hyperbaric chamber twice a day, add daily chiropractic adjustments, and shift her diet to reduce inflammation.
Within weeks, my husband and I watched our daughter heal before our eyes. By the time she was ready to leave for college a month later, her facial expressions, feeling, and strength had completely returned. Even her pediatrician was amazed at how quickly she recovered.
That moment sealed it for me. Yes, I work in hyperbarics, but I also live it. I’ve seen firsthand how it can transform lives—not just for patients, but for my own family. My “why” will always be my family: keeping them healthy, strong, and resilient, both physically, mentally and academically. Over the last five years, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been one of the most powerful tools in helping me do just that.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a difficult road because we were heavily involved with my mother’s hyperbaric treatments daily for 5 years. We kept a good relationship with the clinic she started treatments with, and learned everything from them as they mentor us in this business now. They provided me the information and contacts needed to open our own wellness center. Now, we thought people would swarm to our clinic once we opened. Finding out from our marketing data, the real problem is educating people on the causes of illnesses and chronic conditions which is inflammation and hyperbaric is the best tool that can without help reduce inflammation and restore oxygen to our cells and tissues so the body can heal itself.
Inflammation blocks the energy from getting to the mitochondria, which delivers the energy (ATP) to our cells. It’s about the function and purpose of oxygen in our body’s. When you go to the hospital, the first thing they give you is oxygen. The question is, how long can you live without food? Several days. How long can you live without oxygen? A few minutes. That is how crucial oxygen is for health and healing. It’s not a “senior moment” or “that’s how it is when you get old.” Your body is letting you know, I have gone long enough without sufficient oxygen and now, you have to take me to the doctor for a diagnosis you do not want to hear.
Another challenge is that medical insurance often does not pay for treatments unless it is a severe burn or from the list of 13 FDA approved severe conditions where they utilize hyperbaric as a last resort when it should be the other way around. Sabrael Wellness Hyperbaric is actively working to have a 501c3 Non Profit organization in order to accept tax deductible donations to supplement the cost for seniors, veterans, and others who cannot afford the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My career started out as a math and science teacher. That makes it easy for me to follow the science and research data on hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Even though I loved teaching math to middle schoolers, I loved science more because of the weekly experimental labs my students did. Then became a certified school counselor for a number of years. After seeing the benefits of lifestyle change for my mother, I knew something like this is needed in our community to help many other athletes, seniors, veterans and families stay healthy and enjoy life. So I first became a certified brain health coach and myself and family became certified hyperbaric oxygen technicians.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We offer services that help people regain their health and vitality, target common concerns of aging people, youth involved in sports: hyperbaric oxygen therapy, lymphatic compression, red light therapy, and braintap neuro frequency balancing.
So now, what is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy or HBOT or HBO therapy is a treatment procedure that takes place inside an air sealed, vinyl chamber with 3 windows filled with air in an increased atmospheric pressure. The process aids the body to absorb oxygen in a greater amount and transports it to the blood cells, blood plasma, cerebral-spinal fluid, and other body fluids. Sufficient oxygen content in the affected tissues promote healing and provide relief.
What are the uses of HBOT? Many doctors and clinical researchers in the field of hyperbaric medicine believe that HBOT benefits more conditions beyond the 13 FDA approved indications. These uses include autism, cancer, concussion, general health and wellness, mental health, neurology, sports performance and recovery, traumatic brain injury, and many more. We also provide lymphatic flush using the Ballancer Pro Compression Massager. This is the top of the line for moving toxic fluids out of the lymphatic system, reducing swelling, and great for pre and post op procedures- as a lot of plastic surgeons require their patients to use it before and after surgery to enhance the results and aid in the healing process.
We have BrainTap which uses a headset with lights, sounds, and guided narration to stimulate the brain. It helps you shift your brainwave patterns to achieve states conducive to stress reduction, better sleep, and peak mental performance. It boost energy that supports both mental and physical performance. The benefits include: 1. Enhanced mental stamina to stay focused and clear-headed longer. 2. Stress reduction by lowing cortisol levels to prevent energy drain. 3. Improve sleep quality and wake up refreshed and ready to go, 4. Balanced brainwave frequencies being able to shift seamlessly between relaxation and alertness.
We have red light therapy, which uses low-level, non-invasive light wavelengths to stimulate cellular energy production and promote healing and regeneration in the body. We have individual pads for isolated areas for treatment and a full body red light panel that hoovers over the body for treatment. The benefits are but not limited to: 1. reducing signs of aging, 2. promoting hair regrowth, 3. Reducing acne, 4. Improving cognitive functioning, 5. Ease chronic pain, and 6. Reducing inflammation.
We all need to look at the damage we have done to our bodies, not to feel guilty, but to say, “when God calls me home, I want to be in my right mind, enjoy life, enjoy my family, enjoy healthy good food, stay active, and continue learning something new each day.
