Conversations with Sad Hippie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sad Hippie.

Sad Hippie

Hi Sad , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been involved in music for many years and started writing back in middle school. Year 2015, I was accepted in to an Urban Arts Partnership in NYC, where I focused on music production+foundation & poetry. Year 2016, I started recording professionally. First record I put out called Feel Me did big numbers on SoundCloud, I never wanted to stop after that. Rest is history. I’m a music junkie & always will be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think music is ever a smooth road, at least not for most. There have been several ups & downs, being told no, & having to redirect my path repeatedly. Thankfully I trust in the ebbs & flows of life so I stay the course. I have pretty unyielding fortitude; this is part of who I am, part of my art.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter. I specialize in creating captivating music that feels vulnerable, raw, and relatable to many different people.

By combining elements of alternative R&B, pop, electronic, & even trap, I have been able to create a unique sound that represents me as an artist.

I’m most proud of my growth creatively, professionally, & personally. Just staying the course & going hard regardless of hardship, pushing myself to learn & innovate is gratifying.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
It was during quarantine that I was able to temporarily quit my regular job and dive into music every single day. It was one of the best things that ever happened to me, which I know is a strange thing to say given it was such a difficult time for most.

This was a very important time in my life; I learned a lot about who I am & what I’m made of.
