Today we’d like to introduce you to Salah Ananse.
Hi Salah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a DJ, Music Producer & Event Producer. I was born & raised in Atlanta. I went to Northside High School of the Performing Arts where I started producing music, then attended college at Morehouse College. That’s where I started spinning.
After college, I spent years doing more of the college circuit, opening for underground soul artists & spinning at clubs like the 1st version MJQ when it was under the Ponce De Leon Hotel. At the same time, I was building clients as a graphic designer/creative lead. In the mid-2000s, I switched completely to music full-time.
Since then, I have been the lead DJ at Shout, BED & W Downtown. I’m now the Friday resident at Tesserae, a private club located in the Thompson Hotel in Buckhead. I also travel nationally & internationally playing music. I do festivals, clubs & events I produce in-house with my wife Nina & my team.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working in the Nightlife Industry definitely presents its challenges. Venues close/change frequently. As a DJ, your audience’s tastes change frequently. I’ve always sought to maintain an atmosphere at my events that separate my clients’ venues from what folks are getting elsewhere in Atlanta. Sometimes, dealing with inebriated patrons requires a lot of patience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

I’m most proud of my event brands:

COME TOGETHER – A party I do with DJ Kemit every last Saturday of the month. www.ComeTogetherDanceParty.com
SUNSET CITY GROOVE – A sunset party I do with Sean Falyon on rooftops in Atlanta & Miami.
MEET ME HERE – Another party I do on Wednesdays with Sean Falyon.
I’m not known for playing mainstream music. People come to my parties to hear deeper sounds.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
You can’t do it alone.
