Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Steiner.
Hi Scott, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey through the electronic music industry began in 2016 when my brother, Cody, took me to Lane 8’s This Never Happened show at Terminal West. I’ve always viewed myself as a super fan of music, spending the majority of my life attending rock shows, but nothing has ever compared to the experience with Lane 8. I was hooked and wanted to do whatever I could to introduce this kind of experience to people.
It was then when I decided I was going to build my life around this. I didn’t know anything about it or what my role might be, so I decided to go to as many shows as possible and talk to everyone that was involved to learn and figure out how I could contribute. Two years passed and I was having so much fun I nearly forgot my initial intentions. That was when Sam Wolfe, who was working with a group called Subtle, invited me to work with the team. The Subtle team were my first mentor and taught me a lot about how shows are produced and all the pieces that went into it. A few years later Subtle and my company, Cult-ure Collective, went on to co-produce a boutique festival called Rebirth in Washington, Ga. Currently, Cult-ure Collective produces community-driven charity events and provides Artist Management services.
At the end of 2020, coming out of covid, I began hosting Silent Disco events under Sound Not Found to provide a music experience with social distancing in mind. This has grown significantly and I currently partner with breweries and Pullman Yards for Silent Disco-themed events. My favorite part of this has been having the opportunity to book over 160 DJs from all over the southeast!
I got involved in artist management through my closest friend, Rita Mucavele, aka Canvas, in 2021. I first saw her perform in 2018 and I was completely blown away by the music, her energy, the message, and who she is as a person. I was instantly compelled to spread the word and share this gem with the world. We are about to hit our 2 year anniversary and coming off an amazing year filled with festivals and performances across the country. We are super excited for 2023 as we take this project to the next level!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oof, the struggle has been real lately, but it did start off smooth. I’m super extroverted and love talking with people so the networking process comes easy. The struggles began as I got more serious about making a career out of this. At the end of 2020, I quit my cushy, high-paying job to focus all of my attention on pursuing my passions in music. Starting a self-financed business from scratch turned out to be a bit more difficult than anticipated, I can be a bit optimistic with my goals, haha. I was walking into a whole new world with completely different challenges than I’ve previously faced. Adapting to a new work schedule, dealing with financial strains, self-doubt, and holding myself accountable were the main challenges I faced and still face.
I wouldn’t have it any other way! Nothing good comes easy and I love testing my limits. The bigger the challenge, the better!
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
My previous career was in corporate sales, During this time I became an expert at communication, relationship building, problem-solving, negotiations, and understanding how businesses operate. These skills absolutely prepared me for my music career.
Post-sales career, I haven’t found a title that accurately describes my “work” so I like to describe myself as a music advocate. Everything I do can be traced back to supporting artists, sharing music and experiences through music. But if we want to get technical, I mainly do artist management and event production.
It’s hard for me to speak on what I’m known for, I like to leave that up to everyone else. However, I hope I am known for being kind, compassionate, fun, supportive, passionate and for organizing meaningful and unique experiences that encourage connection.
I’m so proud of Canvas, the insane music she is making, her dedication, her work ethic, etc. I could go on and on! We have been side by side going through many of the same struggles and having each other to rely on for support has been so crucial. I’m proud of booking over 160 DJs, many of which were playing their first live event. Supporting artists that are often overlooked and giving them opportunities to hone their skills has been so fulfilling. Last but certainly not least, I’m really proud of our community here in Atlanta and across the country. I couldn’t do anything without their support and guidance. We are all in this together!
If anything sets me apart from others, I’d say it’s being obsessed with learning as much as I can from everyone I meet and staying focused on self-development. That being said, there’s countless others that do the same!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
There’s two books I always recommend, Sapiens and Atomic Habits. Sapiens provides a complete history of humans and how we evolved. This provided a foundation for understanding my urges, motives, and how our brains are wired and function from a biological perspective. Atomic Habits is the book you read that enables you with the tools (brain hacks) to achieve anything you want! It’s amazing and a favorite of many.
Manifestation through good intentions, positivity and hard work has been a prominent theme in this journey of mine. Superhuman is a documentary on Amazon that I highly recommend. It completely changed my belief in what we are all capable of.
