Today we’d like to introduce you to Shafon Moore.
Hi Shafon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began exploring makeup as a hobby during my time in the army. Each day, I would come home, change into more feminine attire, and spend time at my makeup table. After leaving the US Army, I struggled to find a job in my previous field, which led me to take a leap of faith and apply for a position at the nearest makeup counter, Estée Lauder. Once I secured that job, I realized I could eventually transition into working independently in a salon. I have been working for myself for the past eight years, and it has proven to be a rewarding decision.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey of being an entrepreneur has been challenging, particularly as a single mother balancing time with my daughter. It requires late nights and significant sacrifices to achieve success, along with maintaining strong will and motivation to overcome various obstacles. I have faced struggles such as learning new techniques and managing my time effectively to ensure clients are served promptly, while also adjusting to the responsibility of depending solely on myself as a business owner.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a makeup artist specializing in natural glam makeup for events, bridal, and production work. I am recognized for my lightweight and flawless makeup application that enhances my clients’ features which sets me apart. I take great pride in my recent production work, where I had the opportunity to assist Flaujae with her commercials for brands such as Samsung, Powerade, Puma, Experian, and Mass Mutual.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to anyone looking to enter the makeup industry is to continually apply yourself, remain consistent, and stay updated on current trends. Clients are always interested in new looks, so flexibility is key. This approach will help ensure longevity in your business.
