Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaira Fitzpatrick.
Hi Shaira, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with acting at Carver Jr High School in drama class. Our class wrote and performed a play based off the book “How Santa Got His Job.” After that, I jumped right in, performing in my high school’s spring musicals, joined the community acting youth group, Imagine That, and started taking classes. I decided to continue to follow my passion and went to College for Theatre.
I graduated with my B.A. in Theatre Performance from The Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, also known as FAMU.
Unfortunately, the pandemic took place so I moved home for some time before coming to Atlanta. While I was home in Greenville, SC, I would make time to travel to do background work in Atlanta. My first work with background/extra was for the show DMZ on HBO Max.
In 2021, I was ready to make the move to Atlanta and in August, I did that. Since my move, I have done more background work, taken classes, workshops, and auditioning.
In October 2022, I was cast as the Hawkins high class of 86′ in The Stranger Things Experience, that ran from October to February 2023 in Midtown. While I am still pursuing my acting career, I am currently a gymnastics/dance instructor at The Little Gym of Smyrna and working more with social media, where recently I did a TikTok ad for Goldfish.
I got here today by keeping my goals a priority. The path can change but as long as you’re still going towards the same direction, you’re still making progress.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve experienced many potholes, and not just the ones on the roads. The biggest struggle with pursuing a creative career is time management. When you are starting off most, if not all, of your brand management and marketing comes from yourself. Finding time to be consistent, release and promote content on social media, working a part-time job to invest in your career, training, friends, finding a work-life balance. It can get tough. My advice is to take it one day at a time and find what works for you.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an actor. I have many skills that make me stand out as an actor. I sing, dance, roller skate, and perform gymnastics. I’m most proud of my ability to create for myself and others.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I have a strong passion for music and would love to get into songwriting. I have a small selection of music I wrote on sound cloud, Apple Music, and Spotify.
