Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie A. Dorcely.
Hi Stephanie A., so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a kid watching behind the scenes of music videos on MTV and movies on HBO always fascinated me. Although I thought it was cool I never really imagined myself as an actor. Fast-forward to 2021 in the midst of the pandemic with Covid when the world was trying to get back to being normal I visited a church. A prophet there who didn’t know anything about me prophesied to me that I would be a big star. He told me that I would write songs and movies, and that my name would be known. Even though I am a classically trained singer, I worked at a restaurant as a server and didn’t see how that could be my life. So I continued on with my life after that day with that prophesy still in my mind. A few months later I got fired from my serving job after working there for 9 years! Little did I know that that was the blessing in disguise that I needed to set me onto the right career path of entertainment. My friend in the industry agreed to get me started. We took headshots, recorded a monologue, and the rest was history. I dove in!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road! Haha. Initially I wanted to start off with TV and film even though Musical theatre would’ve been best because of my musical background. Covid made finding work so hard. Not having any experience made finding work hard. Not knowing anything about how to find work, how to network, or who to network with made things hard. Even now I face different challenges, but God is amazing.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Since finding work in TV/Film wasn’t getting me anywhere, I gave in and started to submit myself for theatre work. By the grace of God (quite literally) I landed my first and paid professional gig in Winter Garden, Florida as Lorrell Robinson in Dreamgirls! This is one of my most proudest achievements because of having to be away from my family for months for the first time. Vocally, mentally, physically it challenged me!! However, this experience that I was graced with has set the path for what I have accomplished afterwards. I do specialize in singing which is what I’m most known for. What sets me apart is my spirit and my energy. My aura. It’s pure and full of love. People gravitate towards me. I have gained favor from many just because of me being me, and I am humbled.
Any big plans?
When my future plans happen I will be happy to share them! What I will say is that the mind is the only limit.
