Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunny Sin. Them and their team share their story with us below:
The Space Crew was founded by two AAPI women, Hailey and Caroline. Hailey first developed the idea in 2019 after realized that many budding entrepreneurs lacked a space to work and focus. She invited Caroline to help build and create this idea, and they successfully turned this dream into a reality by opening The Space Crew in October 2021. Since then, The Space Crew has welcomed creators, entrepreneurs, and dreamers with the mission “to provide a community space that empowers individuals to do meaningful work.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We’ve been open for almost eight months now, and every month is filled with new and invaluable experiences. We’ve faced many challenges, from the COVID-19 pandemic to other unexpected situations, and in some ways, we create our own challenges in order to continually improve. We meet many talented individuals from different fields of work at The Space Crew, and they all have unique needs and goals. This can create challenges when we try to cater to individual needs, but it also strengthens and solidifies our vision to create a community for like-minded and passionate individuals.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the community manager of The Space Crew and a film photographer that specializes in portrait and documentarian photography. The majority of people I work with are artists and chefs. In every image, my goal is to make the audience feel as though they are peeking into another person’s life or dream. I’m currently most proud of my portrait series featuring AAPI women and my new work in the AAPI advocacy space as a producer for the documentary “The ABCs of AAPI” coloring book. Everyone has a unique story to share, and I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and joy to be able to help artists and chefs convey their stories and connect with others.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to us is being able to cultivate a space where people can pursue their ideas and dreams without hesitation or barriers.
