Conversations with Sydney Simone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Simone

Hi Sydney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Mississippi. Growing up, I often heard comments like, “You are so tall; you should be a model.” I was always creative. I enjoyed taking pictures for Instagram, curating aesthetic Pinterest boards, and creating content. Modeling often crossed my mind, but I never thought it was realistic until I met a girl who was a model at my new high school (Hey, Dani). The following year, I decided to pursue modeling. Since there isn’t a significant modeling presence in Mississippi, my approach was to book photoshoots and post them on Instagram. Eventually, photographers wanted to collaborate with me, and I also started receiving invitations to participate in pageants and fashion shows. This continued throughout my college years, though school always came first. After graduation, I decided I needed to move to a bigger city to have a real chance at making modeling a career. I moved back home and worked for 10 months until I found a job and relocated to Atlanta. I have now been in Atlanta for 6 months. I have already signed with my first modeling agency, MMG New York, and have collaborated with various brands and photographers. Those years of doing photoshoots for fun in Mississippi prepared me for the opportunities I am gaining today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle as a model has been living in an area without a strong modeling presence. However, social media is powerful. Posting consistently on social media can get you in front of people and brands worldwide. I am so happy I continued to pursue modeling in Mississippi despite not seeing any financial gain. It has shaped me into the confident, graceful, and prompt model I am today. Living in a small town also made it hard to stay focused. There weren’t many people I knew personally who were pursuing modeling seriously; most of my friends were pursuing more practical careers. Moving to Atlanta helped me realize that modeling is a realistic career. There are many men and women making a comfortable living from modeling, which is both comforting and inspiring to see.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for beginner models is to practice and post! No matter where you are in your journey, you should prepare for when your modeling career takes off.

1. Practice posing, facial expressions, and walking as much as possible.
2. Stay on the lookout for photoshoot deals and opportunities—both paid and collaborative.
3. Don’t be afraid to shoot your shot! I have received many opportunities by sending emails and sliding into DMs. The modeling industry is all about who you know; networking and maintaining meaningful connections will open many doors.
4. Post everything you can—even videos of your practicing.
5. Live your life and post as if you are already a booked and busy professional model. It’s a form of manifestation!
