Hi Talisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Embarking on my entrepreneurial journey was anything but glamorous, however, it has proven to be the most transformative and fulfilling experience of my life. It all began as a necessary shift from the corporate world to entrepreneurship, fueled by my burning desire to regain control of my time and create a better future for my family. Equipped with the invaluable knowledge and skills gained from my previous roles, I fearlessly set out to build my own businesses; little did I know that this path would lead me to a passion for the financial industry.

I appreciate this opportunity to reflect and share my journey with others who may not only be looking to start a promising work-from-home career but also need the help of a tax or life insurance professional. Mentorship is so important to my journey and my favorite part of what I do aside from networking. Every high-profile client I have ever worked with has a mentor. In fact, how I got started and how I got to where I am today has a lot to do with mentorship.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? Never. It has been an incredible journey, but it certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many ventures in life, it has been marked by both triumphs and challenges that have shaped me into the person I am today. The personal and professional struggles along the way have been instrumental in my growth and have taught me invaluable lessons that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

One of the early hurdles I encountered was the fear of taking that initial leap into the unknown. Leaving the comfort and security of a traditional job to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams was both exciting and scary. I didn’t get to gradually ease into it. It was more of a sink-or-swim situation.

Another challenge I faced was navigating the complexities of properly building a business from the ground up. From developing a solid business plan to finding mentors, each step required meticulous planning, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from both successes and setbacks. Building a strong foundation for my business took time, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.

Nevertheless, I am a mom to 5 amazing girls: Amariah, Tayonna, Quianna, Victoria, and Nyla. These girls fuel my creativity daily and pushed me to find innovative solutions to stay ahead of the game. The way my girls challenge themselves at every turn motivates me to see every day as an opportunity for growth and has shaped me into a more resilient, resourceful, and empathetic entrepreneur.

To say the least, it’s my goal to make sure my children, business partners, and clients have exactly what they need to make their journey easier and more informed than I had myself. Doing things better and treating my network like family allows them to exude supreme confidence in themselves and my services.

What do you think about luck?
I firmly believe that luck, whether deemed good or bad, plays no role in my personal and business journey. Instead, I attribute my success to faith, living life to the fullest, and consciously putting out positive energy to attract positive outcomes. As an organic marketing strategist for beginners, I often encounter clients who feel down on their luck over a lack of social media engagement and having no luck finding their tribe. In these moments, I encourage them not to fixate on the timing of their success. When you are your best self and comfortable in your own lane, you position yourself for your tribe to naturally gravitate toward you. Starting out, your luck will be determined by your ability to put yourself out there through networking and making people aware of your business and brand. Building awareness is one of the first steps in marketing.

My advice to beginners in life and business with regard to luck is to recognize the critical importance of networking. To make your mark in a crowded space, you must actively network and connect with others. The fact that your name is being mentioned in rooms you haven’t physically entered is not a stroke of luck. I firmly reject the notion of luck, chance, or coincidence. I believe that every person who crosses paths with me, both in personal and business settings, is either seeking or praying for something new and wonderful. It is my mission to make a lasting, positive impact on each and every individual I encounter, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.

Remember, it is not luck that brings people into your life, but a divine alignment of purpose and opportunity. Absolutely! My overall mission is to empower individuals to become financial beacons for their families and communities. Through my entrepreneurial journey, I’ve embarked on various business endeavors and formed strategic partnerships, all with the aim of upholding this mission. Along with providing exceptional tax support and training to new and seasoned tax partners, what sets me apart in the tax industry is that I ensure that each partner has the opportunity to build their own brand awareness by harnessing the power of social media. Our motto is “In business for yourself, not by yourself.” I offer innovative flyer templates and strategic social media strategies to each of them through our esteemed online, self-paced tax academy.

Leveraging my expertise, I have a Creative Agency called The FLASH Code that includes a Marketing and Branding Academy geared specifically to all tax professionals and service-based industry professionals by offering an add-on marketing & branding service in addition to their already amazing tax training platforms. The FLASH Code is a hub for business professionals and entrepreneurs to find my Canva 101 class, DIY Flyer templates, customized services, A.I. models, and Organic Social Media Marketing & Management services. I emphasize “Organic Social Media Marketing,” for beginner professionals to build their platforms, just as I did in the beginning—with minimal monetary investments and mostly my time. It serves them well until they are ready to scale and invest in their business thru paid ads. This long-game approach has brought success to me and my clients and has helped build a sense of community, especially in a post-pandemic landscape where lifestyle marketing has changed. Recently, I have added The FLASH Lab, Canva Content Creation Group. It is a subscription service that offers monthly flyer templates, as well as the ability to network with graphic designers, content creators, and entrepreneurs. Each member can also promote their business weekly.

But my services go beyond tax preparation, marketing, and life insurance. I also provide Notary Education services, with two e-books available on my website. These resources help individuals create additional income by starting a notary business or growing and retaining customers in the notary industry.

What sets me apart is my comprehensive approach and desire to always gain more through mentorship and training. I am an alumnus of the Bank of America Institute for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Cornell and am currently a part of The Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center’s Milestone Circle Program designed for business owners seeking to grow their entrepreneurial mindset and skillsets to expand their business.

Currently, I cover all three aspects of the tax industry: serving clients through tax preparation, empowering tax partners through education and training, and fostering organic social media awareness for both bureaus and partners. Education and empowerment are values I hold dear, which is why I actively collaborate and support like-minded professionals.
