Conversations with Tamara Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Taylor

Hi Tamara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Whew! Where do I start? I started my medical billing and coding career in 2005. I moved to Atlanta being a victim of Hurricane Katrina. I was given a job opportunity to work a lady that had her own medical coding business. That was the start of God choosing medical coding for me. I had a dream to be an architect. Being in Atlanta for 2 years, I always felt at home. I always had big dreams for myself with being an entrepreneur and I knew that if anything is possible it can for sure happen in Atlanta. I move back home, Gulfport, MS for 11 years. I felt like I had accomplished everything I could back home so one day I made the decision to go after my dreams. I sold my home and the next day my children and I were in a U-Haul truck moving back to Atlanta. That leap of faith was no easy journey. Many sacrifices, many long nights, many doors not opening, and many tears. And now here I am only by the grace of God, I have been a full-time entrepreneur for 5 years servicing ambulance providers here in the metro Atlanta area, and neighboring states.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey has been far from smooth. More like a bumpy roll coaster. A single parent of 3 at that time with very LITTLE support trying to work full job and start a business at the same time is not for the weak. Working the jobs were not fulfilling because that’s not what I moved to GA for. I could have stayed in Mississippi. I took another leap of faith and went full time as a business owner with 1 client. As you can see, I am a risk taker. I have been to bottom before so that really doesn’t scare me anymore. My faith in God is why I take big risk like that. I started making phone calls after phone calls to solicit my business and I was told no so many times that I was being blocked. Funny story is those that blocked me and told me no because we were not a big company are clients today and have been clients for 4 years now!! ALL GOD!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The name of the business is EMS Revenue Pro LLC formerly known as Taylor’D Medical Management. We are an outsourced medical billing and coding company for private owned ambulance companies in the Metro Atlanta area. We are known for being small but mighty! We get the job done. I go above and beyond to ensure our clients are getting paid what is due to them from the insurance companies. And that is not always as easy as it may seems. My clients trust that we are going to be an advocate for them.

I don’t take enough time to reflect of how far I have come but I am very proud of myself. Starting with believing in myself and never quitting. I have had many challenges that I know were sent to destroy me, literally, but I still got up. Even after I made a horrible mistake with selling the business ( Taylor’D), I started over and now we are doing better than before. Most medical billing businesses have 2 owners. I’m the only owner with almost 20 clients and 5 staff members and growing. I had to make God my business partner because on those hard days (yes, they still exist) I need someone to vent to after a long day, to bounce ideas off of, to figure out the next best move, setting processes, finding the right staff, payroll, and so much more. I am absolutely proud of myself for having the determination and strength every day to go after what I know I can have. And that’s a great abundant life!

What sets me apart? My resilience! My love for what I do. It shows in my work. I truly believe this is bigger than me. This is my passion and I truly believe this career path was chosen for me.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, absolutely! I never take anything for granted. During that time people lost loved ones and jobs. Nothing is promised to us including life. I learned to yes working hard and going after your dreams is great but so is being in the moment and living!
