Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Reid.
Hi Tamika, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Tamika Reid aka Synergy I was a stay-at-home mother for ten years and during that time I homeschooled my two children. I really got into spirituality a lot during this time and became a Reiki master, a certified Energy Healer, and Spiritual Adviser. I started Lost Minded Legend, a nonprofit in April 2022 in commemoration of my son Eli Alvarez who was murdered on October 2021.
Experiencing the tragedy of losing my 17 year old son left me feeling hopeless and lost. While dealing with my grief and learning how to live without my child I had a moment of nostalgia about a conversation he and I had,
I remembered he came up with a plan to market himself as a brand Lost Minded Legend. That’s how the idea for my nonprofit came to fruition. The name Lost Minded Legend Was created by my son and designed by me to help people who are or have experienced grief due to the loss of a loved one by way of violence and or sudden death of any kind.
My son, Eli Alvarez, has been my rock ever since I was blessed to have met him. He always taught me that this is my world and everything and everyone else just happens to be in it. He looked at himself as a walking industry. His self-confidence could not be compared or matched to anyone that I’ve ever met. I miss him greatly and words cannot compare. I choose to honor him and his legacy by taking his brand and turning it into a place of healing not just for myself but for others because we all are legends in our own way. Eliyah brightened up every room that he was in with his charisma and he dared to try things not being concerned with the potential that it may fail because he looked at himself and said “how can anything fail if I am not a failure”. For that reason along with many, he will never be forgotten. He lives through me and through my company and nonprofit “Lost Minded Legend”. He lives on.
I’ve turned my grief into something that can be helpful to others who are experiencing what I have been through on a mental, emotional, and spiritual level.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting Lost Minded Legend inc has been a smooth road for me thus far because I have a lot of support. I have some very helpful friends that are coaching me through the process. The legacy of my son’s life is one of my biggest motivations for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?Lost Minded Legend INC is a nonprofit that assists people who have or had experienced the sudden loss of a loved one due to violence or sudden death.
We specialize in assessing the family/friends of the deceased to develop healthy helpful spiritual practices, and to assist them during their healing process.
I am known as a reiki master and spiritual advisor, and have been for over thirteen years.
My goal is to implement meditation, a healthy diet, and other spiritual practices to name a few in order to facilitate healing.
Having to bear the loss of a loved one is the hardest thing I’ve ever been through and living with that loss is the hardest decision I ever had to make. My nonprofit is geared to assist whomever needs the help to carry on.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is being at the home I grew up in back in Jamaica and smelling the aroma of Sunday dinner cooking on the stove and my father playing old records, somehow the memory of that moment always made me feel safe.
