Conversations with Taoran Jiang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taoran Jiang.

Hi Taoran, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Taoran Jiang is a UI/UX Designer and visual creator whose work focuses on crafting thoughtful, human-centered digital experiences that connect users, brands, and culture. She began her design journey in China, where she studied Interaction Design at Nanjing University of the Arts. During her undergraduate years, she built a strong foundation in design thinking, visual systems, and user behavior, while developing a deep interest in how design can shape everyday experiences.

To further expand her perspective and professional practice, Taoran moved to the United States to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Interactive Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). At SCAD, she worked on research-driven projects in collaboration with industry partners, including Deloitte and Recteq, where she led user interviews, synthesized insights, and translated complex findings into clear, actionable design strategies. These experiences strengthened her ability to communicate across disciplines and deliver design solutions grounded in real user needs.

Following her graduate studies, Taoran continued to build her professional career as a UX/UI Designer through a combination of full-time, contract, and freelance roles. She has worked with U.S.-based teams to design digital products, conduct user research, and collaborate closely with stakeholders to improve usability and overall user experience. Her work emphasizes clarity, accessibility, and emotional resonance, ensuring that design decisions serve both users and business goals.

In 2024, Taoran joined 24:01 Florist in Los Altos as a UX/UI Designer and Visual Content Creator, where she leads the design and maintenance of the brand’s website and visual presence. By integrating interactive design principles with visual storytelling, she has helped enhance the customer experience across digital and in-store touchpoints, contributing to stronger brand identity and customer engagement.

Taoran’s work has received consistent international recognition across multiple years. In 2023, her projects were honored by the International Design Awards (IDA), the European Product Design Award™, and the Indigo Awards. In 2025, her work continued to gain global recognition through the Vega Digital Awards, London Design Awards, NYX Awards, and NY Product Design Awards. These accolades reflect her sustained creative excellence and her ability to deliver impactful, high-quality design solutions at an international level.

Today, Taoran continues to develop her practice at the intersection of UX/UI design, visual communication, and user research. Her work is driven by a belief that effective design is not only functional, but also meaningful — capable of bridging cultures, technologies, and human experiences.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Taoran’s journey has not been a smooth or linear one. Like many international creatives, she faced the challenge of rebuilding her career from the ground up after moving to the United States. Adapting to a new cultural environment, professional system, and industry expectations required resilience, patience, and a willingness to continuously learn and adjust.

One of the most significant challenges was bridging cultural and communication differences while working in highly collaborative, research-driven design environments. Navigating stakeholder expectations, articulating design rationale in a second language, and earning trust within cross-functional teams demanded both confidence and humility. Over time, these challenges strengthened her communication skills and deepened her ability to translate complex ideas into clear, human-centered solutions.

Taoran also faced the pressure of establishing credibility as an emerging designer in a competitive global field. Balancing academic rigor, professional projects, and independent creative exploration required long hours, discipline, and a strong sense of purpose. Rather than viewing these challenges as obstacles, she treated them as opportunities to refine her craft, build resilience, and define her own design voice.

These experiences ultimately shaped Taoran’s approach to design and problem-solving. The challenges she encountered reinforced her belief that meaningful work is built through persistence, adaptability, and thoughtful engagement with both people and systems. What began as a difficult transition became a foundation for growth — one that continues to inform her work today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Taoran Jiang’s work centers on turning complex problems into clear, usable, and thoughtfully designed experiences. Rather than focusing solely on aesthetics, she approaches each project by identifying friction points within user journeys and designing systems that feel intuitive, cohesive, and purposeful.

In her professional practice, Taoran is known for her ability to connect research insights with practical execution. She works closely with stakeholders to clarify goals, define success metrics, and translate abstract requirements into structured design solutions. Her process balances analytical thinking with visual clarity, allowing teams to move from ambiguity to alignment efficiently.

A defining aspect of Taoran’s work is her versatility across digital contexts. She contributes to product interfaces, websites, and visual content ecosystems, often bridging digital and physical touchpoints to create consistent user experiences. This flexibility enables her to adapt design frameworks to different industries while maintaining a strong focus on usability and user intent.

What she is most proud of is the consistency of her work over time. Her projects have earned recognition from multiple international design competitions across consecutive years, reflecting not a single standout moment, but a sustained level of professional excellence. For Taoran, this recognition represents the long-term refinement of her craft rather than isolated success.

What sets Taoran apart is her calm, methodical approach to collaboration. She is valued for bringing clarity to complex discussions, facilitating alignment among cross-functional teams, and ensuring that design decisions are both intentional and defensible. Her work demonstrates that strong design is not only about visual impact, but about building trust, structure, and meaning into every experience.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending long afternoons drawing quietly on my own, completely absorbed in creating small worlds on paper. I would sketch characters, rooms, and imaginary scenes without any clear goal — just following curiosity and intuition. Those moments felt calm and expansive, and time seemed to disappear.

Looking back, those early experiences shaped how I relate to creativity today. They taught me to observe carefully, enjoy the process, and find meaning in small details. Even now, when I’m designing digital experiences, I often think about that same sense of focus and curiosity — creating spaces where people can feel comfortable, engaged, and understood.
