Conversations with Tarsha Lynn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tarsha Lynn.

Hi Tarsha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up and started my journey in what I thought was a hobby for me. Being a middle child of 3 girls from Baltimore, MD, my only outlet at the time was hair. I would watch my mom style family members and friends and caught interest immediately when I saw the smiles she put on people’s face. I knew from then I wanted to be a hairstylist. I took it a little further, only out of curiosity. I started mixing hair products just to see the outcome and to my surprise everyone would be amazed at the turnout! I was on to something, that’s when my passion went deeper for the love of hair and pretty much all things beauty. I got into fashion and started watching modeling shows too. I felt I wanted to be a model alongside of styling hair and makeup. Now, here we are 20 plus years later, I’m licensed to do all the things. I’m a senior cosmetologist and educator and I’m also pursuing trichology this year. I’m commercially modeling for brands and international photographers in the North Metro Atlanta areas all while still making handmade products for my family brand DNZ Hair Essentials. DNZ is dedicated to my children Demario Jr., Nabraia and Zoe. That’s two things I love the most, hair and my kids.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
You know Baltimore is known for having potholes everywhere. So.. no, the road hasn’t been smooth. However, I’ve learned the roads and how navigate through the hurdles. It was most challenging for myself and my kids when we were homeless all while running a full service salon. I had to show up everyday for them and my team at the time facing this hardship. It wasn’t easy but I made it look good. I made people feel proud and happy in atmosphere I built. That’s what kept me going. My passion, pride and determination is what everyone saw and the humility is what built my character to keep striving for the best.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been more behind the scenes with my profession doing hair and makeup. I specialize in hair care and I do more protective styles than anything. I’m known for growing hair and honestly having a good time in my chair. Everyone knows when coming to see me we’re going to eat, laugh and get cute! A time will be had for sure. It’s only right that I be myself as I enhance the beauty already within my clients. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come from that young girl styling hair to being a great mom while running my own business in the beauty industry. What’ sets me apart is that my passion is my purpose and I will never depart from it.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is family and being happy! Being able to just wake up is success. You have another chance to be better. That’s the real success to me just being better than yesterday.
