Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatyana Goolsby.
Hi Tatyana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My passion for hair and all things beauty, All started as a little girl when I would beg my mom for wig heads, braiding hair every time we went to beauty supply store. All my dolls would get makeovers and I would style & roll their hair and pretend they were getting a wash & set or practice braiding styles on them every year for Christmas I would ask for hair products, doll heads, rollers, blow dryers everything that’s in the salon I wanted. I would grow up and watch so Many youtube videos for weaving, styling, natural hair, coloring anything! I just wanted to learn. I would practice everything on myself experimenting different techniques. I would gain a lot of practice from offering moms in my neighborhood to style their daughter’s hair for free to practice my braiding technics and work on different textures. When I got to college I created buzz around the college campus with offering $90 handmade wigs, $100 installs, in my college dorm room in 2018 I decided to make an Instagram to show off my work and post daily, I gave out flyers, post ads on the school’s social sight and promoted all around. I even started a brand ambassador program on my campus to push my business by word of mouth to all the students. Before I knew it, everyone on campus was coming to me to get slayed by me raving how much they loved the quality of my hair. After graduation from college, in 2022 I moved salon base in the heart of Jamaica Queens, offering Custom luxury Wig, Bundles and installs. I’m convenient for college students. My main focus and drive was to offer good customer service, affordable prices and great quality products to my clients, especially my school student. I’m currently enrolled into the Paul Mitchell cosmetology school to further my knowledge and expand my techniques to further my business wigs and off natural hair care and hair health under the wigs I offer. I want women to fill beautiful and confident leaving me and showing them all hair can be healthy hair and grow beautifully.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur has its up and down. A struggle I faced was remaining consistent with content posting and not giving up when times are slow. As a service provider, you can go through a period where your not booked as much or a customer comes to you with a problem. Staying true to your business, being professional, and never giving up on your dream can really be hard. but you have to keep going social media can really be a distraction and make you feel like you’re not doing enough. But keep showing up for your business and staying consistent can definitely be a struggle.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Custom Luxury wig maker/ stylist specializing in luxury Hair and install services. I am known for my good quality Hair that I offer and my growing hands for my client’s natural hair growth. I’m known more for supplying great quality hair, wig and growing natural hair under the wigs.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see my brand expanding a lot more than just selling hair and wigs. I would love to add a product line for my customers to use on their wigs and natural. I’m working on building my own salon/beauty supply store in my neighborhood and continue to offer more services for each client’s needs. My vision is way bigger than just selling hair, I want to bring back confidence to women and teach them that all hair can grow and be healthy and helping them learn more about their hair under a wig. I also want to be involved more with helping clients with hair loss feel beautiful and confident with their medical condition.
