Conversations with Tecia Janes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tecia Janes.

Tecia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Choosing Him Ministries was established in 2017 with the purpose of fostering spiritual growth by bringing women together for biblical teaching, discipleship, and Christ-centered community. In our early years, we developed curriculum, published blogs and devotionals, mentored emerging writers, and facilitated events that encouraged worship, testimony, and engagement with Scripture. From the beginning, our organizational mission has remained consistent: to connect individuals with Jesus Christ, the truth of God’s Word, and meaningful Christian community.
Through eight years of ministry partnerships and outreach events, we identified a growing need for accessible, authentic Biblical counseling and coaching. Many individuals seeking guidance rooted in Scripture lacked reliable avenues of support. In response, and through the prompting of prayer and trusted partners, Choosing Him Ministries expanded its mission by establishing a Biblical Counseling Center. This development enabled us to move beyond written and spoken teaching and provide direct, personal care to those walking through life’s challenges.
Our counseling philosophy integrates evidence-informed counseling practices with the transformative power of God’s Word. We believe that personal growth occurs most effectively within a supportive, Christ-centered community, in keeping with the biblical principle that “as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17). With Scripture as our guide, we aim to help individuals process difficulties with clarity, hope, and purpose.
Today, Choosing Him Ministries functions as a comprehensive Bible-teaching and counseling organization. We exist to equip women and men to know Jesus Christ personally, grow through the truth of Scripture, and live out their faith in the daily rhythms of life. Our vision is to see lives transformed by God’s Word—rooted in biblical truth, guided by the Holy Spirit, and actively reflecting the light of Christ in their homes, churches, workplaces, and communities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Integrating Biblical counseling services into our ministry was not part of our initial strategic plan. While a formal business plan did not account for this expansion, in January 2023 we opened our counseling center, and we now have Board Certified Biblical and Pastoral Counselors on staff providing services both in our offices in Newnan and Peachtree City, both individual and in classroom settings and off-site at our non-profit partners.
In the past year, we have formed partnerships with three nonprofit organizations serving marginalized communities—Bridging the Gap, Coweta Samaritan Clinic, and Pioneer Youth in Hogansville. These partnerships allow our Biblical Counselors to provide services at no cost to clients. While these opportunities were not anticipated, we have embraced them as a calling and continue to rely on God’s provision for the necessary resources.
One of our most significant challenges is increasing awareness of our ministry. Without broader recognition of our mission and services, potential partners and supporters cannot engage with or invest in our work. Several additional nonprofit organizations have expressed interest in collaboration, underscoring the importance of outreach and visibility in sustaining and expanding our impact.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are often asked to explain what the difference in Biblical Counseling? The answer is simple for us, the Word of God is our primary and fundamental authority in our counseling. Our philosophy is to marry proven counseling methods with the transformative power of God’s Word. Our heart is to walk beside women pointing them to Jesus, just as “Iron sharpens Iron, so one person sharpens another” (Prov. 27:17)
The struggles of life are processed in a healthier way when we are equipped with the Word of God as we seek to find solutions, and purpose in our circumstances.

How do you think about luck?
Luck is not really in my vocabulary. I am a Christ-follower and I do my best to walk with my hands wide open and my eyes and heart positioned upward. My life verse that I try to live by is found in Isaiah 30:21
21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” I know God always speaks, some times I just have to stop talking and surrendering my plans for His greater purpose.
