Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Hightower. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Tony Hightower was born June 9th in Atlanta, Georgia to Theresa Hightower.
Being the son of a single mother who was known as one of Atlanta’s most premier R&B, Jazz, Blues singers gave Tony the opportunity to travel alongside his mother and meet some of the world’s greatest entertainers such as The Temptations, Ray Goodman and Brown, Sonny Turner, The Manhattans just to name a few.
As a teenager, Tony had an extraordinary high school experience going to Atlanta’s premier performing arts High School Northside/North Atlanta – the closest you can get to FAME. This is where he had his first experiences traveling abroad in his high school’s Elite Production “Tour Show”. There he met three guys who would go on to become lifelong friends that would later form the group 4.0 – They worked diligently and by graduation, they signed to one of Atlanta’s legendary production companies (Organized Noize). This became the vehicle that led them to achieve their dreams of a record deal with SAVVY/A&M Records – Releasing their self-titled debut album 4.0
As Tony grew in his artistry, he realized he had many talents, one being acting. One of his first opportunities was the hit Tyler Perry production, ” I Don’t Wanna Do Wrong which led to Madea On the Run, Madea Gets A Job, and the hit Television show “If Loving You Is Wrong” and many more.
Today, ironically Tony’s career path has paralleled his mothers in that he migrated through many genres and has settled in jazz. Releasing two successful critically acclaimed bodies of work, “The New Standard and LEGACY” which was in honor of his mother
Keeping that legacy alive is Tony’s greatest charge as he embarks on creating a legacy of his own.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One has to love this industry to be in it. With that being said – no it has not always been easy, there can be really high highs and really low lows, but my love for this keeps me steadfast.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I do is pretty much what I’m known for. I’m a singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. Most recently a vocal coach. I’m very proud and thankful that I am able to make a living doing what I love to do. What sets me apart from others in what I’m currently doing is Jazz. My take on it – being that my background is from R&B and Hip Hop, I know that it makes my delivery and presentation different.
How do you define success?
I guess that’s really subjective. On one end I see success as becoming wealthy and achieving all of your goals, however, if you find yourself happy on your journey to that, then that is success in itself.
