Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Cherry.
Hi Travis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I originally started back home in 1993, when a friend and I started an r and b group called Simplee Uneek. Fast forward through the years and I ended up in ATL I started working on my craft as a producer full time around 1999, and just kind of grew from there. I started my business in 2011 after breaking away from some producers I was working with and stepping out on my own. My concept was really about it being a great creative place and the home of great r and b music..
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely had its bumps in the road. I originally had my location in midtown Atlanta in what was called Studio Row, and it was a battle because a lot of change was happening and landlords started not really wanting our business due to the element studios began to attract. A lot of business owners and residents began pushing for more ordinances that made it harder to have a recording studio, and they started raising rents on us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a music producer and engineer. I also write songs as well. Probably what sets me apart from a lot of other people is the fact that I started in an r and b group, so I have a great ear for singers and the small things that their voices can do.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Crafting timeless music and the sonics which make people fall in love with a great song. Great songs define moments in people’s lives and they never forget that feeling of when they first heard it.
