Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Horton.
Hi Tricia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with the Spanish language and decided to study it in order to communicate with many people around the world. After graduating from University I decided to leap across the Atlantic Ocean and make my home in Spain. That is where my English journey for teaching ESL students began.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, is anything smooth? I had to deal with prejudices against my culture, my accent in Spanish and even endure comments of hate when I spoke to my son in English. I wanted him to have both languages as that was a good ticket to a strong, corporate future. This also made me realize our accents are a little bit of who we are. It makes us our special selves. Like a tattoo of individuality without the ink.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I coach busy professionals how to confidently communicate in English. I give them the skills to help them improve not only themselves but also the tools to help them serve their companies in a more complete way. I teach many students around the world connect with the English language.
Through social media I create videos where people can find me and decide how I can better serve them. Some choose 1:1 coaching, some my digital courses and some choose only conversation. It is a wonderful job and I am grateful to help professionals become the best versions of themselves.
I am known for my easy pronunciation. People are thrilled to be able to understand a native English speaker so well. People love my positive vibe and nurturing energy.
I am different from others because I too speak two other languages which puts me in the shoes of the learner. I know how they feel when it comes to feeling stuck and not improving. That is one of the main reasons I started my digital courses. These help learners always have a place to practice at any time and any place.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Social media can help, I can help. I love helping people improve themselves and encourage them to do so.
